Dart wins last 2 sets 6-2! I always enjoy watching Dart matches because she runs around like a trooper etc
But Parks is one of the most bizarre players Ive ever seen? Looks like she has game but just hits unforced error after unforced error and thats about it. Like a worse version of Maddison Keys? Wild. Good for Dart though
i forgot this board is annoying with ellipses

Breaks to 15, thanks to some aggressive tennis *1-0
Has 40-30 but f clips net and goes wide, A-, VT's b clips the net, landing wide 2-0*
VT carelessly lets KS back into the game from 40-15, KS with a f winner for BP but wasted with a poor sliced f long , VT holds *2-1
VT deep return off a 2nd serve, another 2nd serve 15-30, KS aggressive f 30-30, wild f from KS 30-40, horrible f wide from KS 2-2
KS reluctant to approach the net, wastes endless opportunities to shorten the points, still gets 2 BPs, VT aggressive b saves one, KS punishes a 2nd serve for the break *3-2
KS 30-0 after decent 1st serves, KS b into the net, then a KS f poor error long 30-30, KS b error long, KS rubbish f error long 3-3
VT df 15-15, VT v winner after drop shot, df 30-30, wild f from KS, good point from KS finishing with a f winner 40-40, KS punishes a 2nd serve 40-A, KS f net 40-40, unret 1st, unret *3-4
KS with a f drive volley winner 15-15, and another f drive volley 30-15, KS f error long 30-30, unret 40-30, KS super f winner after her serve 4-4

VT b winner, KS b return winner 15-15, unret 30-15, VT wrong foots KS 40-15, VT winner *5-6
KS f winner after rally, KS f error net 15-15, KS b net, VT aggressive b 15-40, KS agg f after rally 30-40, repeat 40-40, KS wild f after 2nd serve 40-A, KS survives long rally after 2nd serve 40-40, lucky net cord return winner off a 2nd serve 40-A, KS b into the net after yet another 2nd serve 5-7
That set was dominated by Katie's forehand, plenty of super shots but enough errors to keep VT competitive, then her first serve went missing in the final game. She managed to save 3 MPs despite 2nd serves each time but not a fourth.

Katie is only winning 8% with her 2nd serve. She would do better to just play 1st serves, even if she misses 50% and wins 50% of the rest she would still be getting three times times as many points as she is now.

Wow! I imagine thats only true for this match and is usually at least a bit more Like the 25 percent you suggest to aim for?
I'm not sure when that 8% stat was taken, presumably it was early in the 2nd set. For completeness, in the first set she was getting 75% of her first serve in and only had six 2nd serves, although she only won the point on one of them (17%). In the 2nd set her 1st serve in % was down to 54% and she won 6 of her 19 second serves (32%) giving an overall 2nd serve win % of 28%.
A couple of other stats from the match Katie had 23 winners (most in the 2nd set) to Tomova's 6 and Katie had 47 unforced errors (split equally between sets) to 5.

Lambda is correct in pointing out the serves were not the issue. The difficulty for Katie was having to play the world #119 without hardly any preparation (aside from the match against Myers), and having had Covid only 3 weeks ago. Managing to stem the tide at the start of the 2nd set, and breaking the Tomova service game twice as well as holding on to own service games, and then almost forcing a tie break (saving 3 match points in the process) was a creditable effort. The forehand stats might indicate that Katie thought all-out attack was the only strategy that would be successful in the situation.
I hope she's encouraged by her performance - 20 points and good prize money, and now lets hope she can build again in the 25Ks-100Ks and get that ranking inside the top 200 again. Would love to see in the sub 150's by YE. if she can just stay injury free for long enough.
