I don't think Emina is prioritising singles. Her singles ranking achieved while still also very much continuing to play doubles with Tara ( as they each close in on the top 100 ) got her into Aus Open singles qualies so quite naturally she is here this week. But I am doubtful longer term. Though of course if things were to continue to go very well for her here and later on there could be choices to be made in the future.
Beth may well be. And if she does much more focus on singles that could be very interesting, given her increasingly good form during the second half of 2021. I do think it worth her really making singles her clear top priority for a while to see where she can get to.
Only saw a wee bit of Jodies match and she looked to playing well, Emina another player like Beth who seems to be putting in hard work and quite rightly prioritising singles.
2/5 through so far is disappointing, will be tough for Fran as well but hopefully she can make it 50%.
Yes, those QR1 draws were beautiful - obviously no one's complete chopped liver but honestly, you couldn't ask for much better.
And to make things worse, Fran is 1-4 down and has the trainer on......taken her arm sleeve off - pointing to her fore-arm/wrist......

I too fear that Beth may be prioritizing singles-brought on by a few wins and failure to establish a regular dubs partnership. With one she should could have made Top 50. Very limited chance of even Top 200 in singles.
"I just can't help thinking that anyone who has had THAT many wrist operations in her youth has a very high chance of future wrist problems. And having seen her hands close up, I honestly can't help thinking it's also very likely - she herself says she has to grip the racket SO tightly because her palm is so much narrower - the mechanical stresses that must cause do my head in...."
I don't believe in jinxes but it definitely seemed to be her right arm/wrist.
And she's retired. What a horrible day. She'll have been feeling a lot of.pressure too after last year. Very difficult for her to keep at this level week to week.

Really disappointing from Katie B, especially given her section.
Jodie and third sets
I'm used to Jodie underperforming but expected better from Katie who really needs to make a change.
A great shame about Fran, it's a credit to her that she's got as far as she has done in tennis but injuries are always a risk. Her condition also unfortunately does place limitations on her game that her opponents will exploit.
Was thinking of subscribing to Discovery+ last night but looks like I made the right decision to hold off unfortunately.

Oh Jodie, you should be winning some of these three-setters - if not in two !
Well done Katie S, but dissapointing from Katie B.
Very sad for Fran though, but I'm not totally surprised as I thought this might happen one day. Just as she was climbing the rankings nicely as well.
Disappointing from Katie B who is stagnating at the moment - she has always had the highest peak level of all the ladies in qualis but something has not been working since Wimbledon. Hope Katie S can carry on going au least.

I thought 2 or possibly 3 through was likely.
Very sad to hear about Fran. Jodie, well it's just Jodie isn't it. Sam at least put up a good fight.
I think Katie B's result is the most disappointing. Her career just seems to be stagnating when she has a lot of potential. Surely time to look at her coaching and training set up in a critically constructive way.
Katie S feels like she's making her way back up the rankings to me but Tomova will be tough but Katie has nothing to lose.
Harriet has to play Alycia Parks next round not Loeb doesn't she? Could be an interesting match. Parks has potential but if you keep the ball in court long enough she usually blazes long or wide. I fancy Harriet to win.
