Yeah, I agree - it's a 'gentle' time of day for tennis

I've even just watched a bit of Heather.

But I think I'm calling it a night....

Cheer on Jodie a bit for me, won't you?

Fingers crossed.....

Yep. I personally have no interest in cricket, but a bit more success over the Aussies wouldn't go amiss biggrin

Katie's first win at the Australian Open (obviously not including juniors), well done!

Katie's first senior AO appearance, in fact, and she has now won at least one singles qualifying match at every slam:

- Wimbledon 2015 (QR2) & 2021 (Qualified)

- US Open 2018 (FQR)

- Roland Garros 2019 (FQR)

- Australian Open 2022 (QR2 and counting ...)

Jodie has lost her last 9 matches that went into a third set (or 13 of 14). Today would be a good time to end that streak...

The smart money would look to be on Mendez. But c'mon Jodie!

But you won't now get the even money that was being offered on Mendez by bet365 at the start of set 3.

0-2*

Well well, Jodie breaks again for *3-2 in the third.

Katie B has dropped the first set to Emina Bektas 3-6

Crazy, that 15-40* was for Mendez to win 9 games in a row and to surely be on the verge, but more twists.

I'm not watching, I'm kind of following the scores to multiple matches (inc Hev), but will try and stay up to a conclusion, and fingers crossed.

Not to be. Emina wins by 6-3 6-4, taking it on her 3rd MP. That's not a match that Katie should be losing

That's Emina's second win against a higher-ranked Brit in less than a week, you'd think she was getting tips from someone who knows the Brits well, but I can't think who that might be wink

Joking aside, that's a rough loss for Katie, who was the favourite to win her section (from https://www.tennisabstract.com/blog/2022/01/09/picking-32-qualifiers/)

Only saw a wee bit of Jodies match and she looked to playing well, Emina another player like Beth who seems to be putting in hard work and quite rightly prioritising singles.

2/5 through so far is disappointing, will be tough for Fran as well but hopefully she can make it 50%.
