And she takes it with a winner 6-4, 6-3.

Was more comfortable than the score suggests just a wee blip here and there rather than her opponent doing much. So good winners and when the serve went on looked very comfortable and was moving really well.

She must be closing in on being out most successful Slam qualifier winner. Anybody know the stats on that?

Harriet is now 18-6 (75%) in slam qualifying matches, which is pretty stunning, qualifying 4 times.

Of the obvious suspects, I'm pretty sure Heather has the best GB record this century with 19-5 (79%), qualifying 5 times.

Bally won 17 slam qualifying matches (17-16, only just above 50%) and Laura won 16 (16-6), while JoKo won 14 (14-6) and Katie O'Brien won 13 (13-11).

I'd be very surprised if any British woman has won 20 slam qualifying matches this century (which is where Harriet could get to this week if all goes well), maybe not at all but I haven't done enough research to make a good call on that.

Looking back a little bit further, Karen Cross qualified for Wimbledon twice but was only 8-8 in slam qualies as a whole.

Well done Harriet. Got herself into a bit of bother in the first set but got it done. And second could have been even more comfortable.

Feel for Sam. Similar to Niculescu at the US Open, she fought hard and played some nice stuff to take it to the wire, but you never really felt like she was going to get her nose in front and sneak it.

I think these results would have been pretty much what we all expected. Still a bit of cash in the pocket for Sam. Harriet should get through to the main draw.

Re qualifying wins, Jo has an interesting record. She qualified for the 2012 US Open and the French and US Open in 2015 which accounts for 9 of her wins. In the interim she failed to qualify 6 times winning just 5 matches. Didn't see a successful career emerging in those days.

Thanks for all the reports, Jaggy, and others.

Real shame for Sam, so close......

But Harriet, I guess, was our really important 'banker' so great that she came through reasonably easily.

Having had to qualify that many times is not really a good thing is it? It just means that she is stuck in the 100's.

She qualified for her first slam at Australia in 2019 ranked 131 (and was 121 at the end of that January), which is pretty much where her ranking is now 3 years later, so while injuries and time on the side lines haven't helped, at that stage being 22 y/o, you'd have hoped she would have been a bit further on by now. Although saying that, assisted by her birthplace of course, she has played in 6 of the last 11 slam main draws, and has made a slam third round, plus her runs have been a focal part of the forum in the lead up to slams, so a lot of great moments created, and hopefully she can do the same here.

I turned the Sam match over early in the second set so missed the majority of it, but fair play to her for making it competitive, I wasn't expecting that after the way the first set went.

Anne Keothavong also won 13 but lost 16. The other top 100 player from that era Mel South only won 4.
