It is worth noting that Tomova had lost 20 of her last 26 matches (since Roland Garros) heading into AO quals, and whether skewed by British money, Katie was the pre match betting favourite, so it wasn't a case of an unlucky draw against a high end Q seed at the top of her game, and probably one there for the taking under different circumstances, but at least she got the chance to play and some good prize money and points as mentioned, and hopefully she can finally get a good run of events this year and push on.
Fingers crossed that Harriet can get through her FQR again. Hopefully she will be on at 11pm UK again tomorrow so I can watch.
Emina Bektas who has been written off by some for not conceding herself to doubles, wins again and is into the final round of qualifying. A nice chunky pay check already earned, something that she would only earn by reaching a Grand Slam Doubles Quarter Final or better.

You make good points but I think we're all ready to cut Katie S some slack because at least she won one blinkin match and then lost to a player well above her, even if only on paper.
When compared to Katie B, say, and then Jodie, and even Sam and Fran, it was a positive.
Clutching at straws slightly maybe but better than nothing.....
Argh, just settled down to watch Harriet, loaded up Discovery, and it's pouring down. I'll likely have to just catch the result tomorrow now. I might have a rare early night - there could be some late ones over the next couple of weeks.
Birrell breaks back with Harriet chasing after a few returns. Birrell has the majority of her right arm taped so youve got to think Harriet is clear favourite here even with home backing.
A great slapped cross court winner from Harriet earns a break point, saved with a volley smash but 2 UE from Birrell hand back the break. Harriet going for her shots here which is good to see. Have a feeling there will be a lot of breaks here.
