Week 2 - ITF W25 - Bath, GB Hard

Ive just been looking at the OOP for tomorrow and I notice Beths match against Jasmine is on court 5 which hasnt been streamed this week. Thats really disappointing as I feel this is the pick of the second round matches. In fact 3 ladies matches are on this court whilst all the Mens are on streamed courts. Unless Ive got the wrong end of the stick?

Who is Emma Wilson? Seems like such a random result!

She did well in British Tour events last year, and also had one or two decent UKPL performances.

Received a scholarship with Fresno and followed her coach to Arizona for her final year. While in the US she was two times regional winner of ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award, all PAC12 honourable mention and two-time All Mountain West honouree. Closer than you'ed want for Beth. As I said elsewhere, given her increasingly good singles results in the second half of 2021,  I for one would be pleased to see her prioritise singles for a while, as it looks as if she might currently be doing. Give it a full go for a while and don't be left wondering. She has plenty time in the future to return to regular doubles.

Yes, I have read doubts about this based on doubts as to how high a ranking she is likely to achieve in singles vs potentially doubles. That's just a viewpoint and I don't get that anyone wants her to fail in singles!

I think it is very unclear what her singles ceiling is. She has been behind contemporaries in embracing travelling on tour and now seems to be maturing quite quickly in different ways so let's just see ...

Indiana makes good points above. We often forget that female athletes and their bodies develop differently as they reach a certain age for many reasons. 25 seems to be the age the body stops growing therefore it makes sense not to write off athletes particularly females in this regard. Maybe another reason the likes of Anna Brogan and a few of the other college girls will be making a shot of it this year. The college route seems to be the way to go in the US and I can see this becoming more common. Examples like Emma Raducanu will be the exception to the rule.

Although Beth wasnt at her best today in the first couple of sets I would expect a comfortable straight sets win tomorrow, quite a bit between the players from what Ive seen. I think that might be the explanation perhaps, closer contests in the other matches.

Why didn't Katie Stresnakova enter?

Thank you CD. Im glad its not just me! Both these matches are far more interesting than many others on the streamed courts.

Very good win for Freya over Joanna, 3-6 6-4 6-1, but man, 4 streamed courts out of 5, why did that have to be on the only non streamed court. Same with Beth vs Jasmine later. In fact, 3 of the 8 women's matches are on that court, yet all the men's matches are streamed. Pretty poor really.

Edit - just realised I'm emphasising what a lot had already said, but totally agree.

Yeah, thoroughly infuriating.....

BUT very pleased for Freya.

As you say, that's a good win - Jo is a fair bit higher ranked, a seed, has been playing a fair bit recently.

So nice to see Freya stringing at least a couple of wins together.

Eden is practically home and dry too -

Eden is one of those that I was hoping would be very inspired by Beth's run - Eden is someone who is better ranked in doubles but is a long way from having fulfilled her potential in singles - and it would be really nice to see her get up near the 300 mark and then make a proper stab at crashing the top 200, which is well within the range of possibilities.

Agree with all above, wondering whether Freya played well and getting back to form from days gone by, or whether Joanna faded.....

Draw looking intersting now. Freya will play the winner of Beth v Jasmine. Eden will play the winner of Lauryn v Gabriela Knutson. Still some peskies in the draw, but looking good for the Brits.

Ella lost so sadly one pesky is through. There was a chance of 8/8 to go with the men but guaranteed 4 and Lauryn is 3-2 up final set.

The score looks a little harsh for Ella (or maybe not considering she's only 16 and unranked) 1-6 3-6

BUT I saw most of the first set and I thought she put up a very good show - she was in the points, in the games, especially in the first half, she made the other player really play, she had a nice balance of attach and defence - it wasn't quite good enough but she should be pleased.
