Week 2 - ITF W25 - Bath, GB Hard

Ella beats Eva, who was just swinging halfway through the second set and missing. I assume she was carrying an injury...

Disappointing performance from Eva, too many unforced errors. Didnt really get into the match, didnt look like carrying an injury just not good on the day and didnt seem to have any fight in her.

Yes, she had an MTO for her arm mid-first set. But was playing freely, winning points, went way up in the second. Didn't seem hampered.
As you say, just didn't seem ready to engage in the fight as she needed to.

But Jasmine is playing well - hitting her zones really nicely. Managing to needle her opponent

But only 4-1* still, so early days....

Jasmine wins the first set with ease - 6-1 - with the other player serving 5 DFs and Jasmine playing a very nice balance between being on the front foot and not going for too much (zones rather than lines)

Enjoyed Jasmine's match - lots of winners, and solid technique

What a really impressive match from young Jasmine

Miles better than the Eva v Ella match.

Only seen a tiddly bit of her live before but this was a very assured performance.

She beats the player ranked WTA 650 or so by 6-1 6-4

Pretty awful match from Freya, constantly on the back foot, horrible serve (technique has gone out the window). Alice was the more offensive player buy couldn't quite get past and Freya wins in two

Only two doubles matches played today. The GB juniors had a good win, whlst the touring pros beat the ex-college girls.

L16:- Paulina Jurkowska (GBR) / Jessica Matthews (GBR) UNR (UNR+UNR) def Diana Maria Mihail (ROU) / Sofia Nami Samavati (DEN) UNR (1128+UNR) 7-6(3) 6-0

L16:- Andre Lukosiute (LTU) / Eliz Maloney (GBR) CR2627 (1471+1156) def Holly Hutchinson (GBR) / Lauryn John-Baptiste (GBR) CR2832 (1406+1426) 6-3 6-4

So the first quarter final is
QF:- Freya Christie (GBR) / Eden Silva (GBR) CR549 (398+151) [2] v Andre Lukosiute (LTU) / Eliz Maloney (GBR) CR2627 (1471+1156)

Freya has had real problems with here serve over the last couple of years, but I thought her serve was much more consistent.
Normally she is very aggressive from the back of the court, but not so much from what I saw.

It was consistent enough as in it went over, but consistently weak.

And awful throw-up problems.

I don't think she's ever that aggressive from the back, she lets the ball drop too much and - more importantly - she resorts to slice (on both sides) at the first opportunity. She did seem to get a TAD better at that last year. But only a smidgen. And it was certainly pretty awful today. Maybe she was a bit nervous coz she knew she 'should' win but she's lost quite a few matches recently that she 'should' win

I put up individual threads for Jasmine and Lauryn.

Which seems mean to Emma W as she took out the top seed !

But I've always followed Jasmine and Lauryn, but know nothing at all about Emma.

If no one else does anything, I'll have a root around and put up something later, maybe.

(I like the individual threads ! )

Eden v Em has just started and is streamed.

Millie takes the first set 6-1. The American teenager wasn't very good against the not very good Mazzoni in qualies, so was hopeful Millie could do the job here.

Eden takes the first set 6-2. Em had the better of the early exchanges but missed two break points then served 3 doubles in her next service game to get broken. Nice to see two players happy to come forward at every opportunity though. Big chance for Eden this week to get some chunky singles points on board.
