Disappointing performance from Eva, too many unforced errors. Didnt really get into the match, didnt look like carrying an injury just not good on the day and didnt seem to have any fight in her.
Yes, she had an MTO for her arm mid-first set. But was playing freely, winning points, went way up in the second. Didn't seem hampered.
As you say, just didn't seem ready to engage in the fight as she needed to.
But Jasmine is playing well - hitting her zones really nicely. Managing to needle her opponent
Jasmine wins the first set with ease - 6-1 - with the other player serving 5 DFs and Jasmine playing a very nice balance between being on the front foot and not going for too much (zones rather than lines)
Pretty awful match from Freya, constantly on the back foot, horrible serve (technique has gone out the window). Alice was the more offensive player buy couldn't quite get past and Freya wins in two
So the first quarter final is
QF:- Freya Christie (GBR) / Eden Silva (GBR) CR549 (398+151) [2] v Andre Lukosiute (LTU) / Eliz Maloney (GBR) CR2627 (1471+1156)
Freya has had real problems with here serve over the last couple of years, but I thought her serve was much more consistent.
Normally she is very aggressive from the back of the court, but not so much from what I saw.
It was consistent enough as in it went over, but consistently weak.
And awful throw-up problems.
I don't think she's ever that aggressive from the back, she lets the ball drop too much and - more importantly - she resorts to slice (on both sides) at the first opportunity. She did seem to get a TAD better at that last year. But only a smidgen. And it was certainly pretty awful today. Maybe she was a bit nervous coz she knew she 'should' win but she's lost quite a few matches recently that she 'should' win
Millie takes the first set 6-1. The American teenager wasn't very good against the not very good Mazzoni in qualies, so was hopeful Millie could do the job here.
Eden takes the first set 6-2. Em had the better of the early exchanges but missed two break points then served 3 doubles in her next service game to get broken. Nice to see two players happy to come forward at every opportunity though. Big chance for Eden this week to get some chunky singles points on board.
