Week 2 - ITF W25 - Bath, GB Hard

Nothing against Beth but thrilled for Freya !!!!

That's a real clutch victory - think she saved a MP along the way.

And she was playing SO much better than in her first match v Alice.

I didn't even see ONE nonsense sliced forehand in the last half of that third set.

(Mind you, the UEs from Beth in the TB were poor - not real mega misses but a foot out on several balls - made it easier for Freya's nerves)

Yes, she even stepped in at some points! When she does, it works.

Seeing her use a forehand slice *when not even out of position* is so frustrating!

A person after my own heart !!!!

It gives me stomach acid !!!

(And, yes, if she'd only step in and take the ball our of the air when she's forced the high, floaty ball, her life would bbe so much easier coz she's good at that shot - but I don't think she reads this forum....no

Well I saw her do that a fair few times today and she has now won the match.  I wasn't sure who I wanted to win, but I'm really pleased for Freya.  I hope that kick starts her season as I feel she should at least be in the top 500.

Congrats to Eliz and Freya and to anyone who predicted them to be the last two Brits standing.

I'll predict the women's will go to seeding now with Beth beating Eden in the final

I feel your pain no

I'd have gone for exactly the same two as you......

As the Head of Women's tennis in my region of France says, there's only one thing predictable about women's tennis, and that is it's never predictable....

But very pleased for Freya, as above.

Freya started pretty poorly but the Swedish woman was even worse.

Freya leading 3-0

It's a pretty patchy match - wouldn't particularly recommend viewing - but Freya has taken the first set 6-2.........

The Swedish girl played really solid in set 2 and deserved the set.
Both players making errors in set 3.

Oh well done Eliz to get over the line in that first set. She made a couple of errors from 40-15 up but kept attacking and drew the error to save break point, served an ace, and then defended well, made things awkward for her opponent who'd got stuck around the net and made the pass.

6-4 0-0*

Eliz takes the 1st set 6-4.

She seems to favour her bh to the point she runs around her fh. Plays a nice consistent game.
