Welcome to the Tour Emma. I'll be surprised if this lasts more than an hour but hopefully she can tune in a bit ahead of the Australian Open where it would be good to see her make the third round I think.

That's not a very optImistic view of Emma's prospects in the Australian Open.
Emma hasn't played since going out in R1 of Linz two months ago. It would be surprising if she can reach the form that won her the US Open straight away. That came at the end of a long run of matches starting at Wimbledon.
Emma's performance in the AO will depend to some extent on what draw she gets for the first two rounds.
But her chances in Sydney look very slim. Swiatek looks to be in very good form having reached the semis in Adelaide (lost to Barty overnight), and Emma hasn't played for two months as Peter says.

Perhaps not but Im not expecting her to recapture the New York magic every week. It's her first Australian Open, she's had limited preparation, she's got a target on her back. Given where she was a year ago I think making the second week would be a great achievement as she adapts to Tour life and builds the foundations for defending the US Open and ensuring she's a top player for years to come.
Revised draw - Iga withdraws with a rib injury. However, not any easier given her new opponent reached the final in Adelaide (lost to Barty).
R1: RADUCANU, Emma (GBR) 19 =CH vs (9) Elena Rybakina (KAZ) WR 14 (=CH)
Wonder if this is the same injury as Osaka? The good old hard to define rib injury. The only thing that looked injured in Iga's defeat to Barty was her pride quite frankly. Hard to say what sort of chance Emma has as she's hardly played any tennis of note for a few months. The match will be on Rybakina's racket. She looked good in parts in Adelaide but if her serve is slightly off then Emma has a chance if she can move her around.
Emma could do with a few matches under her belt though or she is going to find the AO tough going. Don't think the courts will be that quick there either.
