Amadeus Fulford-Jones is in the main draw in Cali :
Rd1: A Fulford-Jones v J Medina [Ven][7]
Medina is a leftie, he's ranked a lot higher at 488 and last week he reached the semis of a futures event in Argentina. I don't fancy Amadeus' chances but hopefully he can pull of an upset
Thanks for the info Count, double-handed on both sides is unusual, the only top 150 player that I've heard of who plays double-handed on both sides in Santoro.
According to tv commentators, players who are double-handed on both sides have often started at a very, very young age and because they weren't strong enough to hold the racket with one hand they grew up and developed playing double-handed shots.
I've just remembered that Jan Michael-Gambil [reached Wimby quarters a couple of times] was double-handed on both sides. I think he's retired now and gone into fashion and modelling.
The big disadvantage of having a double-handed forehand and backhand is that it's less easy to retrieve shots/hit winners on the run.
Goodall also plays double-handed shots on both sides as you said.
I don't think Amadeus is ever going to make any serious impact on the tour but he broke into the top 1000 late last year so maybe he might be able to edge his way up to the top 500.
i guess they can use extra length racquets to help, but does it allow more power on the forhand? maybe on clay its better to as you have that little bit longer to get the returns in.
amadeus trains at the img/bolliteri academy which is why he is always on the south amercian events.

Is there a limit on what length racket you're allowed to use ?
I don't think having two hands gives players more power on their shots, the power on a shot is generated through the speed of the racket acceleration through the ball. , power= mass x acceleration x velocity or power=force x velocity
The mass comes from the mass of the racket which is why heavier rackets give players more power.
Santoro uses the fact that he hits with two hands to his advantage as he can generate different spins and slices and angles to other players.
Did Amadeus get a scholarship to the Bollitteri academy or did his parents pay for him to go there - I'm guessing that they did, going by his surname.
i think there is probably a limit, but it is alos probably due to usability, as most players would opt for a longer racquet if it helped. i guess it may hamper manuvreabilty.

No results anywhere from this tournament yet. I'll send Amadeus a message.
Do you know if Amadeus plays at the net at all as part of his game ? Does he volley two-handed on both sides ? Santoro volleys one-handed and I think Jan Michael-Gambill did as well.
One other disadvantage of being two handed is that it's difficult to get low shots eg: if you're chasing down a drop shot. However, apparently you have more control with two hands.

Amadeus heads from the Columbian clay to the Mexican hard courts of Celaya. He plays a 10K futures event there next week and at no 6 in the entry list he should be seeded.
