Feels like a big drop off in quality , certainly in mens, compared to last week.
Thats a shame, womens looks equally weak with most of the regular players not competing this week. Could be taking a break between events due to Birmingham 25k starting this weekend where they are all entered. Also explains some of the overseas entries looking to get some training in while away from their usual base.
I didn't realise week 2 started yesterday, but it kind of looks like a week to only vaguely check the results with minimal investment from my POV. Probably the worst line up (on paper) that I can recall on the women's side, and the players I'd be most interested in don't represent GB, but I'm also a bit out of the loop as I hadn't realised there was a UK W25 next week (and Glasgow the week after) as Tennisdad was saying, so somewhat understandable, and obviously an opportunity for some players to get some matches in, and make a little bit of money.
Edit - when I was saying worst on paper, I was meaning from a British / UK perspective. The 3 totally overseas players that Bagel mentioned on the previous page probably add a fair bit from a tennis perspective, the Danish girl with the Loughborough W25 title, Arina V winning UKPL Week 1, and then the Estonian girl reaching the QF and SF at the 2 UK W25 events, but then they are obviously much less relevant from a general British forum perspective.

Adam Jones bt Billy Harris 5-7, 7-6(4), 11-9
Luke Johnson bt Jack Gibbens 6-2, 6-4
Anna Brogan bt Elena Malygina 7-5, 6-3
Alice Gillan bt Adeola Greatorex 6-4, 6-4
Harry Wendelken bt Sahej Maker, 6-3, 6-2
Tom Hands bt David Fox 6-3, 6-0
Arina Vasilescu bt Nadia Rawson 6-1, 6-3
Sofia Samavati bt Soumeya Anane 6-1, 6-1
Pity the line-ups are not that strong but with the 25Ks in the following 2 weeks I do think it very understandable that some are taking this week off. There was more need to take the opportunity and get into the groove in the first Pro League week.
Great that all these weeks of tennis are being provided but no need to be playing competitively every single week especially if you've had a few ITF matches and hope for more. A time maybe for a day or two off and work on their games.
Thanks TA, so 2 of the 4 remaining women's matches have qualification implications (one a winner takes all, although not sure how much of a match it will actually be), and the other 2 are placement matches.
Looks a great win for Nadia the other day, or a poor result for Andre, whichever way you view it. Looks a good win for Anna today, and as the slight betting underdog as well, although I guess it is quite hard to figure the Estonian's level based on her two GB W25 events.
And Im sure many of these havent played any week previously, including past years. Do they perhaps sign players up to potentially play , register them in effect, and thus we can expect any of these in future weeks?
I recognise about 95% of the women's name as having played at some point. I guess a couple of the less recognisable names could have stepped in late to finish off a lower placement match. Katie Swan is listed - she was given a WC to the classic week, but then later withdrew after doing well in a W25 the previous week, so hasn't actually played, so they probably are including players who were at least due to play.
I didn't recognise Summer Colling, but Summer Yardley (not listed) played a full week a year or so ago. I thought she might have got married, or her parents remarried or something (a bit like Beth once being known as Sarah Beth Askew), but it seems they are totally different players involved in tennis, so I assume that's probably a mistake.
I'm still working at home at the moment (due back in the office very soon) so, despite my initial lack of enthusiasm, I managed to catch most of the Alice-Joanna, and Arina-Andre matches. Alice and Joanna was fairly evenly matched, a lot of breaks throughout, Alice had at least one set point, but ended up losing 6-7 2-6, and looked to have ran out of gas a bit towards the end. To be honest, I was wanting Joanna to win and while it may be somewhat disrespectful, I cannot help but to consider her a GB player, even though she's obviously not. I don't know what it is, and whether subconsciously had it have been her mother who was British and her dad from Taiwan and her name was reflected in this, it may have been different, but it is a bit strange, ha. Quite an important win for Joanna as she now has a far more favourable QF match tomorrow against Michelle D. Alice has the Danish girl who won Loughborough last week.
Arina beat Andre 3-6 6-4 10-6. Arina was effectively through as group winner towards the end of the match due to games won, but Andre needed to win in straight sets to qualify, and it was on serve until the 10th game, but she was broken - Andre was holding her sides a fair bit towards the back end of the match, so it will be interesting to see if she can continue, especially with her now only in the 9-12 playoffs. Nadia perhaps surprisingly through as runner up and she plays Anna in the QF, so while only 3 players representing GB made it through to the last 8 (above par to be honest), there is a guaranteed SFist. Arina plays the Estonian girl in the final QF, who seemingly easily beat Maddie Brooks in the 'winner takes all' group match.
They are only showing 3 men and 3 women's QF on the OOP tomorrow, but if it ends on Friday, then surely they will need to play all 4 QFs (on both sides) tomorrow, so perhaps it will be updated later.
At least 4 of the QFs are due to be in Birmingham quals, so while they should get a day off on Saturday regardless, I wonder if there might be a MDWC on the line for the winner with the LTA having some involvement in the competition?

Officially the winner, if British, gets a MDWC to Birmingham or Glasgow. The RU gets a QWC to Birmingham or Glasgow (upgraded to a MDWC if not required by the winner). Details of feed up WCs here. Although as WCs for Birmingham have to be named by tomorrow I don't see how it could be Birmingham.
Freya has a MDWC in one of the first four GB 25Ks this year outstanding for being RU in finals week last year. Sonay has either a MDWC or qWC outstanding for being RU in week 1 this year.
It'll be a hectic schedule if Samavati and Malygina go deep here on the back of extended runs last week, but I guess they would know what they were potentially signing up to.
If Samavati beats Alice tomorrow (and she's the 1/7 favourite to do so) and guarantees at least a 3rd / 4th match (although I guess she could give possibly give a w/o in that), then that could be 14 matches between Sunday 23rd Jan to Sunday 6th Feb, with just 1 day off in those 15 days.
