I drew the groups based on places in previous round, keeping winners apart etc, but this group seems slightly more heavyweight!!! The way the cookie crumbles!!
I do understand how difficult this is Jon, but it's really tough having Emma and Joe in the same group when both have been exceptional this year. No disrespect to any of the others but when we get to this stage we are looking for the cream.

I think there are 3 or 4 that are the cream, so always going to be 2 in one group or another - maybe this group is gold top.
still, remember 2 get through only so whoever folks feel are the cream will rise to the top. If not, they are probably sour cream!
Though some would say having Cam in the same group as Emma would have been at least if not more of an issue. Indeed my own top two for this year are Cam and Emma and so at this stage I can pick both. And actually if you went to my top 3 or 4 in each group the other group goes deeper for me. For others it will be different
And then kind of fiddling to take any of most people's seeming main contenders away from say Emma is a bit too much to my mind. I think it's fairest to have some principles to the draw, say by R1 placement so 2 R1 winners in each group etc after, but otherwise treat everyone the same, and then as Jon says it's "the way the cookie crumbles".

Definitely - only bit of fiddling i did was where we had ties in round one to place players to mens and womens split was roughly even, as that is often something that impacts votes, players favour atp or wta players etc .

I wasn't suggesting Jon should fiddle things - just saying it's difficult choose between Emma and Joe when they have both been so good - both being GS winners and therefore at the pinnacle of the sport. Of course there are other worthy candidates too - not least Cam in the other group. Just shows what a great year it's been for British tennis.
