Girls: U12/U14 Junior Orange Bowl (Week 50)

The 2021 Junior Orange Bowl begins tomorrow, with national champions Hollie Smart and Hannah Klugman included (the latter drawn against another Brit, as draws here are not done to keep players from the same nation apart, as with the ITF

Emma Shepard (USA) v (31) Hollie Smart

Nikita Phillips v (10) Abigail Gordon (USA)

(19) Amalia Widdowson v Arina Denisenko (USA)

Thanks for this, David - seems a shame that Allegra goes all the way to the States, just to play Hannah - don't see why they couldn't do the ITF system.

ADD: I see that Ksenia Efremova, the supposed super-star, who Hannah beat so nicely at Let Petits As, hasn't gone over there....

It's definitely been re-done - I saw the Allegra and Hannah match on the draw this morning.

Which is good - in a way.

But, as you say, tennisdad, now she gets the second seed - poor mite.

Akasha Urhobo (USA) v (6) Hannah Klugman

David, just a question - I see that hannah (born 2009) is playing U14 and Hollie Smart (also 2009) is playing U12.

Is that because Hannah is playing up? Or is it actual birth date that matters and Hollie is end of December?

Both served for the first set, Klugman at 5-4, Urhobo at 6-5. Klugman wins tiebreaker 7-6(3)

Anyone born in 2009 can play U12, but Hannah seems to have left that age group behind.

No, sadly not. But I'm keeping an eye on Colette as she's watching Hannah's match and so might be posting some more pictures and updates.

As I speak....

"Urhobo wins last 6 games of second set to take it 6-2"

Hannah won the third set 6-2. That's a great win!

Yes impressive from Hannah against the youngest ever winner of the USTA National Clay Court Championships. Amalia appears to have withdrawn
