Seeds of course are based on the latest available rankings when the qualifying draw is made. If the womens qualifying draw is on Monday of qualifying week then seeds will be based on rankings issued on 10 Jan. If Adelaide or the two Melbourne events in week 1 are regarded as the same Melbourne events that took place in the week before qualifying last year then the points from those events would drop on 10 Jan. If that were the case, as things stand, Fran would be seeded ahead of Katie (if Katie is seeded at all) as Katie would have a 55 pont counter dropping on 10 Jan and Fran has nothing of note dropping before the Aus Open.
I don't think the not taking off WTA points if not consideted the "same" tournament applies any more. It is just a question of when they come off in early 2022.
I don't think Katie's Melbourne points come under the "best of" 2020/21 points and so I think they will not come off until the 52 week anniversary in February. So not until after the Aus Open.
Anyway that I think is the position since the September WTA announcement:
There are probably 3 sports that are Gender equal in terms of popularity, Tennis, Athletics and Gymnastics, none of them market themselves to their audiences particularly well. In the age of Social media there is potentially an opportunity to build an individual following, maybe something the LTA could do better.
All ITF tournaments in Russia are cancelled, with no plans to reschedule them in Russia at this time. The April ITF M15 tournament in Ukraine is postponed
