I think one of my earliest tennis memories is of watching Santana on a B/W TV while off sick from school. Maybe Wimbledon '66 was televised. An elegant and inspiring player.
What a legacy he inspired in Spanish tennis.
I never saw Santana , just before my time as I was born in 65. But he was certainly regarded as a great
When he played , the game was dominated by Aussies and Americans and the Europeans of note where far and few between, but he was one of them and will be sadly missed.
