Girls: JA Plantation, USA, clay (Week 49)

The last Grade A event of the year is the famous Orange Bowl.  There is an under 16 event (no Brits) and under 18 with Ranah Stoiber and Eva Shaw on the main draw acceptance list.  Will Nolan pulled out of qualifying, leaving just Jaquelyn Ogunwale, but she has upset a seed to reach final qualifying this afternoon.  There may be live scores via the website

In the main draw Eva has to face the Argentinian who knocked Matilda Mutavdzic and the Wimbledon champion Ane Mintegi del Olmo out en route to the US Open semis (and was a semifinalist at the Eddie Herr losing to eventual champion Linda Fruhvirtova.)

R1 (L64)

(WC) Tyra Caterina Grant (USA) v Ranah Akua Stoiber
(7) Solana Sierra (ARG) v Eva Shaw

Ranah's second round match was against the 11th seed this afternoon, and like Eva she won one set but not the match. The pair are scheduled to play their first round doubles later.

R2

(11) Lucija Ciric Bagaric (CRO) d. Ranah Akua Stoiber 6-1 4-6 6-3

Just to note that young phenomenon Linda Fruhvirtova, age 16, who is about WTA 300, got knocked out in the semis here, by Petra Marcinko (CRO), also age 16, WTA about 900, who went on to take the title (over Schnaider from Russia)

in the boys, Bjorn Borg's son lost in the QFs.

Adolfo Vallejo (age 17) from Paraguay won the event, beating Kuzuhara (USA).
