Boys & Girls: J3 Loughborough, United Kingdom - Hard, indoor (Week 49)

This starts next week and looks like it has a very interesting end of season field with a good mix of our decent juniors and others from overseas.

Thought I would put up a thread to post the entry lists below

https://www.itftennis.com/en/tournament/j3-loughborough/gbr/2021/j-g3-gbr-01a-2021/acceptance-list/

Be good to see how our juniors cope, a step above the recent Liverpool events and stronger fields as a result

The first round of qualis has finished.

In the boys, the two foreign players won.

And the top 4 seeds all won, so nothing really to report.

In the girls, there were a couple of BYEs which is a real shame.

Jada Okoye beat an Italian girl. But the third seed Czech girl went through 11-9 in the MTB against Sophia Kovecheva (GBR) which is a shame (for us....)

Alex Owonkwo (little brother of Oliver? I assume so - always liked Oliver's tennis) put out the Cypriot player (who I think lives in Britain).

But the German boy won his QR2.

Which left us with only 1 foreign player in the last round.

All the final matches' results are up (two matches in one day) EXCEPT the German lad's match but he's in the MD as a qualifier so I assume he won.

So through to the MD are:

Jonah Gethin, Nick Philibert, Nick Hooper and Vanderstappen

Wildcards have been given to Henry Searle, Henry Jefferson, Kyle Hughes and Ben Gusic Wan

In the girls, the following qualified:

Carmen Martinez (ESP)
Fran Davis
Mia Wainwright
Paulina Jurkowska

Main draw wildcards to:

Lois Newberry, Ruby Cooling, Daniela Piani and Amelia Widdowson

(that's an interesting wildcard bunch of youngsters)

Boys MD

Viktor F (2006) put up an excellent show against the top seed, Matt Rankin, but lost 4-6 in the third

However, super win for Billy Blaydes over the French second seed (younger bro, Freddy, also got a win against a boy from Singapore)

And young Henry Searle (2006) over the French 8th seed.

Even younger Ben Gusic Wan was easily beaten by Phoenix.

But Oliver Hague beat the Portuguese lad.

A couple of results still to come....

Hugo Coquelin, seeded 7, lost to the German qualifier

In the girls, Paulina Jurkowska, who qualified, got a nice R1 win over an Italian girl

Ella McDonald won easily

She's Amelie Brooks (2006) - but, yes, brilliant result !!!

Especially as she was a lucky loser biggrin

Young Ruby Cooling (2007) also beat the Slovakian 8th seed

My Daniela Panini (2007), as a wildcard, took out an American direct entry, 1 & 0

Maria Ustic (2007) also got a late LL spot and won.

Amalia W (2008) got a win too, as did Flora J (2007)

13 out of 16 girls remaining are GB

The seed 1 is from St Kitts & Nevis not Spain. Some players are benefitting from the extended ranking season.
the shadow rankings which come out 13th December switch back to the 52 week rolling period. She would have been seeded 5th and with many points being doubles.  Still a very good win from Amelie!

Yes that includes the 2003 girls too. So the new year will look quite different again.

Will the real 13th Dec rankings replicate the shadow ones ? For example Ranah Stoiber would be ahead of Matilda in British terms and our number one?

do you have a boys equivalent by any chance ?
