That was a great win and Im really pleased for her. As others have said she looks much fitter and is moving really well. Her serve is a genuine weapon - being able to pull out an ace on break point as she did when serving for the match will definitely help if and when she moves up to higher level tournaments. Im guessing she will play the UK IIFs in January and hopefully some more wins there will improve her ranking further in time for the summer.
Really pleased for Beth. First title and she has stuck at tennis despite not being as well funded as some.
Yes, and certain family issues, especially regarding her dad, no?
She also dropped out of main school and was home-schooled since the age of 13, especially to follow tennis.
And was quite a little LTA star (she won the U12 nationals, and the U18 nationals twice - although I can't remember if that was when the very top-top ones didn't play in it). But not always easy to follow that up in adults.
I remember seeing on one of her sites that Laura Deigman was/is one of her physical trainers - great to see Laura D still in tennis.
Pretty apt, given her issues with nerves in much of her tennis, and her problems with travelling, etc etc, Beth's favourite quote supposedly is: Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it
That was a really confident performance (apart from those 2 DF in the last game !). Some great points, and I never thought she wouldn't win. So pleased for her - I have watched many of her matches over the last 5 years since I first saw her play at Felixstowe, and this year she is getting better and better.
She thinks Beth was just having a good run so she could get out of having brunch with her today...... and that Beth's going to be in Grand Slam qualis before you know it....
