There are three Ekaterina Makarova's listed on the ITF website. One is 20 years old and appears to have stopped playing after juniors, the former top player is now aged 33 and hasn't played since early 2019.
This Ekaterina Makarova is 25 years old and is WR384 with CH 382 just a week ago.

Makarova seems to be a common Russian name - there are quite a few other tennis players.

Took a little while but she has certainly come to terms with the ITF circuit and is coming to terms with how rather good she is at this game.

As said she has very clearly been putting in the work. Going for it!

She seems to quite like this court too. Maybe an already good week could turn into a very very good week.

Pity South Africa has fallen through for Beth. She could well have done further damage in the 25Ks down there.

Her intended entry there next week could be a big reason as to why she isn't playing doubles here, as a deep doubles run could have compromised her original travel and readiness plans.

She will have to settle for no South Africa and hopefully a yet deeper singles run.
