Peng

It seems that the IOC are having regular chats with Peng

www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/jan/26/ioc-talked-with-peng-shuai-last-week-will-meet-her-in-beijing-tennis

What I dont understand is why they wouldnt communicate a more regular update - clearly they are trying to appease the Chinese authorities and protect the Winter Olympics, but nonetheless, they seem to be working to their own agenda and certainly not with the WTA as the womens governing body.

I'm pleased to see that Peng's predicament is still being taken seriously.

WTA & an L'Equipe journalist still have doubts - don't we all.

I wonder if now the Winter Olympics is over, we will see a ramping up of the pressure on China from the WTA and, maybe, the IOC, re Peng?

It would be good. I must admit that I am losing hope for her. Even if she was to be able to talk freely, how free would that be knowing the repercussions of her telling the truth?

I am sooo grateful that I live here, and am a loss as to what the world can do for Peng and people in her situation unless the world governments get together, and I can't see that happening.

Apparently she was floated around at the Winter Olympics quite a lot, being used as a bit of a PR tool. Always escorted though and not free to talk

St Petersburg has moved to Astana, other events seem the same as usual. Moscow must now be under question after todays events.

Being reported that its confirmed no Chinese events, on wta tour. Asian swing will just be japan and Korea and half the chinese events have found alternative homes for 2022 now, San Diego being the main one.

Wta tour finals will be in Europe this year and not Mexico; no doubt not in Britain given todays events !

Hmmm. Returning to China in 2023 though?

Steve Simon playing politics and image here - they cant go to China this year anyway due to Covid so it makes it feel and look strong to say that they arent going due to Peng.

But he is also holding out the olive branch (having been tipped off no doubt) that if there is some mutually acceptable resolution, then they will be back in 2023.

Feels like a scripted game to me

Another month gone by and still no news. The wta have a duty i think to keep this alive as a story, shame they seem to have let it go quiet. Even if no news, just keeping its profile alive.
