Week 47 - ITF W25 - Milovice, Czech Rep. Hard

Bit of a roller-coaster

QF:- Sarah Beth Grey (GBR) / Malene Helgo (NOR) CR608 (169+539) def Ali Collins (GBR) / Daniela Vismane (LAT) CR855 (553+302) 4-6 7-6(1) 12-10

Ali+ served for the match at 6-5 in the second set, but lost 9 of the next 10 points. Led the MTB 5-0, and then went 6-8. Had a couple of match points but couldn't get over the line.

The other quarter-finals are being played later today - each featuring a seeded pair.

Ali+ lead Beth+ 6-4 *3-2 in their doubles QF.

A single break in the first set and two breaks to one so far in the second set.

Very close at the end but Beth+ prevail by 4-6 7-6(1) [12-10]

I've been interested in the progress of Ali in doubles and  found myself backing her here. Ali+ served for the match at *6-5 in the second set and had MPs in the MTB at 9-8* and *10-9.

Edit : much as said above

Sofia just gone to a third and struggling with a hip problem. Which might not bode well for Em, who is hitting on the next court.

Wasnt he Davis Cup captain for a while? Not sure who our team was then, was it Tim and Greg days?

He was captain when Tim played as his last Davis Cup year in  2004.Bates also coached Annie K in her later career.

Sofia lost her singles by 6-2 in the third.

All seems fine though in the doubles so far. Sofia & Em are 3-0* up in the first.

Drat. Had the better of the match but the Japanese pair were very tidy. The missed break points in the second game of the second set came back to haunt them. What a shame.

Was probably the best serving I've seen from Em all year too. Ace machine.

SF:- Sarah Beth Grey (GBR) / Malene Helgo (NOR) CR608 (169+539) v Maja Chwalinska (POL) / Linda Noskova (CZE) CR 895 (396+499) (20yo+17yo/JR14-JCH5)

Em and Sofia's loss means there are no seeds left in the draw.

The two in the MTB were great - one wide, and the other down the middle when her opponent was already edging over for the wide one.

Yes, but Beth is very highly ranked and her partner is under ranked as she hasn't played much, so take seedings with a pinch of salt....

Confirmation from Em that Sofia was indeed injured in her singles, but still wanted to play the doubles.
