Week 47 - ITF W15 - Monastir, Tunisia Hard

That's not what paulisi said though is it? He implied Sonay was an automatic pick for a wild card, so it would be good if she got in directly so it could go to another player.

That's how I read it as well.

Me 3.  I do think that the WTA and ATP should look at how WCs are allocated for everyones benefit.  Sonay is clearly operating way above 15k level. If the WTA had a system where a certain number of tournamet wins get you a WC at the next level up it would help everyone.  Its not too bad for Brits and other countries that can offer WC into top competitions for their players but it would really benefit players like Clara Tauson who would be able to move up the tournaments a lot quicker (if they wanted to) I also think some of the higher ranked players should be limited in how many lower level tournaments they enter but that has already been discussed elsewhere.  Seeing Arantxa Rus take the utter p*** at 25 k level pre covid and win 7 25k practically back to back should have been enouth to initiate changes

Sorry - just to clarify, Sonay is a nailed on wildcard. If she can get her ranking down to sub 600, which she is more than capable of, she may sneak into the draw as I suspect international travel may be difficult and the entry cut off may rise above the norm.

As far as I can see Sonay isn't down to play either week 49 or 50 and after that there are hardly any tournaments until after Christmas, so even if she wins again next week it's hard to see how she can get her ranking above the mid 700s before the 25Ks in January. She'd certainly be my top pick for a wild card in those events.

There's currently a couple of 25k in India over Xmas and NY which she would almost certainly get into if she was minded to.

Totally agree with this. If they limited the number of tournaments it would allow higher ranked players who had had a bit of time out with injury, for instance, to ease themselves back. But sometimes when you see someone getting through qualifying with some hard fought wins, only to end up playing someone way too highly ranked, really, in the first round, it seems so unfair.
