I guess that should mean another SE for next week. Hopefully by nsxt year her ranking will be high enough not to need these!

She may have a high enough ranking to make the main draw anyway. She will be joined by three other GB girls next week, Eliz Maloney, Anna Brogan and Danielle Daley. A match between Sonay and Anna could be interesting as they both seem to be under-ranked at present.

F: KARTAL, Sonay (GBR) 996/1076 (CH=985/984 2021) v MORITA, Ayumi (JPN) 946/1388 (CH=40/1167 2011)

This will be Morita's third tournament this year, all at Monastir. She went out in the QF in the 1st and SF in the 2nd. She played once in 2020, retiring in the 1st set so she has effectively been out between Dec 2019 and Nov 2021 and is now trying to make her way back.

No "seem" about it. Sonay is particularly under-ranked just now and on recent evidence would currently probably have rather too much for Anna. Though Anna too has considerable potential upside in time if she continues to progress even just to anywhere near where she reached before.

Sonay is at Q2 on the acceptance list, so should get in directly. She isn't entered for the following week, and will deserve the time off !

THere was an MTO at *2-1 in the second set (presumably for her opponent?). Sonay is now 3-1* in the second

Wow, very impressive in view of her opponent's vastly greater experience.

Nothing left in the draw to scare Sonay - must have a good chance of winning.

Very important for Sonay to bump up her ranking and see if she can get direct entry into GB 25k's in Jan. That would free up some wildcards.

So you do not think that Sonay deserves a wildcard? no

Who are you going to give a wildcard to? Direct entry into 25k need a lot of points these days as much higher ranked players enter the 25k hoping for easier points as there are fewer tournaments around. Players who have not gone to Australia for whatever reason may still want to play.

Yes, very important for the lower players, maybe, but not very important for Sonay, as she surely will be pretty much first choice for wildcards.

Yes I agree with you CD. She is exactly the person that wildcards are for so Paulisi's statement is puzzling.
