Excellent. Judging by her recent performances Dani should easily be ranked inside the top 1000 anyway, so hopefully she can start picking up some points and get a ranking soon.

Not sure the 'recent performances' were quite that good - and 'easily' inside the top 1000 might be a stretch....

But, yes, as per the start of this thread, now's her time smile

NB I've never heard of Evita - she barely played any juniors and just seems to have played an enormous number of ITF adult events this year, picking up a few points here and there, making R2 often, which is hardly a great claim to fame.

So I'd say that was a pretty good draw for Dani.....

Meanwhile, our Sonay is picking up where she left off, currently 6-2 2-0 up....

Well she came 4th in Week 6 in the UKPro league (retired), 7th in week 7 (took Emily Appleton to a tie-break in the pool stages) and 6th in week 9, and had some close matches with some of the fancied players, so I reckon she's on the way up wink

Top 1000 is around 20 points, so a way to go yet - and that is where Sonay is right now (and she's under-ranked by quite a bit as well)

Good win in terms of score line.

Out of interest, does anyone pay attention or use the ITF rankings now - they seem to have no point and certainly dont seem relevant in terms of any comparisons between players and their relative positions in the game?!

Mentioned because the disparity above demonstrates that vividly!

The ITF rankings are only really relevant for entries into the W15 tournaments where many players in qualifying don't have WTA rankings.

Understand that, but do you pay any attention to them at all, or meaningful in any way other than as an entry tool?

Don't get me wrong, as I said at the start, I like Dani and I follow her results, and was impressed with some of her play on livestream this year, as showing a big improvement.

Just not sure that 4th, 7th and 6th in UK Pro League (in 2021, as well) is really all that hot stuff.

(Took Emily App to a tie-break??? Damned with faint praise, to be honest....)

But, little acorns and oak trees and all that - I don't think she's got any WTA points yet, and barely ant ITF points either.

So great to see she's beaten a ranked player.

And won three matches, back to back.

And with a definitely playable main draw.

(And, yes, little fave Sonay is definitely under-ranked - that's a bit different smile

Of course, she now has her first ranking point as under the current rules (soon to end in December), she gets a point for qualifying.

I'd go along with that. Emily won three and was runner-up in the first five of the proleague - since then she seems to have gone downhill.

Personally I don't. There are so many different circumstances as to how players might have come about ITF ranking points that it will be extremely rare that you are comparing like to like in any particular match.

Sonay and Dani won their doubles, 6-3 6-0, against a wildcard pair.

Am pleased Sonay is playing doubles (assuming she doesn't have horribly long singles matches, and it's all a bit too much).

She hasn't played any since 2019.

She's not great at the net and it may well help to get her better, and a little more confident.

And it's fun; she seemed on her own at the other events, when they showed the livestream. A bit of a laugh in dubs may do her good....
