Remind me/ us - the ITA are the indoor nationals and the NCAA the outdoor same- but same level of prestige effectively? Like the equivalent of two grand slams in the pro game?

Are there more than those two at this same level of prestige , or just these two?

Thanks !

Huge draw for the IT Fall tournament, pretty much if you want to play youre in. Players compete as singles or dubs, no team element.

If you want the whole low down on the NCAA tournament link is below - rounds of team competition, i with regionals, super regionals etc. Also a singles and doubles competition with a whole set of rules on selections.

Thanks EP - so, these are outdoor, had forgotten the US is still pretty warm in most parts!

So, does the NCAA outank the IT Fall event or are they of sort of equal prestige - it sounds like they have similar level fields and you get to call yourself an All American or National champ if you win?

Toby Samuel appeared to have a good weekend at an invitational tournament. I assume its a warm up for the ITA all American championships. He won the top singles bracket and also the doubles.

Toby vs Max match is currently playing on court 6 Toby taken the first set 6-4. IMO bit of gamesmanship going on by the Stanford coach, walking across the court in between Toby serving

I watched bits of the match, Toby had a time out injury in the 2nd set and was up 3-0 in the 3rd when the match was stopped whilst the Stanford coach +1 had a chat with the umpire and after that Toby lost the next 3 games. Im not a huge fan of on court coaching when its after almost every point. On the plus side, Max is the only Brit through to the next round.

In doubles, the #2 pairing of Lui M + 1 are out, as are Emile H +1.
Wins for Josh W+1 - a great week for them 2 wins over ranked doubles pairs before defeating the pair from TCU and a win for the Brit pairing from S Carolina, Toby S and Connor T

I am not a fan of on court coaching, stop. I say stop, other than for team competitions where it is valid as part of the team situation. For individual matches, it should be player v player with no outside help on the court.

No idea in terms of prestige. Can anyone else answer that?

The NCAA event is complicated in that teams winning their conference are invited to the event. So you could win a weak conference eg. Monmouth and go to the tournament but lose in a strong conference and not qualify for the tournament but be a stronger team than the winner of a weak conference.

Also if I remember correctly a team is only allowed 1 player and 1 doubles pair in the individual event, (selected by a set of rules) so the same scenario as with the teams could occur.

So the good news is that Max Basing is into the semis of the mens singles , go Max

Ive worked out the structure I think

www.wearecollegetennis.com/ita-events-listing/

These are all the events - these are the All Americans, in November there is a fall championships, in winter it is all team events. There
Is then a summer circuit and summer champs and it all works towards the year end nationals champs which are the NCAA.

So these are big but it looks like the NCAA are the biggest!

Nonetheless, click on the mens all American in the link above and youll see Max in the semis

Not sure where to put this, but this is probably the most relevant thread.

The Oxbridge tennis teams won the Prentice Cup and Seabright Cup against the US teams from Harvard and Yale - a rare event for both teams.

The women's team included Emily Arbuthnott from Cambridge.

Story from The Times here

Wonderful post, the addict

I so like to read about what 'old' GB names are doing - like Jack Molloy - and also foreign players whom you've seen in a lot in GB events like Anna Chesca and Kaminski

Great that team GB won - and great that everyone enjoyed it

PS I would have suggested maybe also putting it in the British Universities tennis thread - but when I went and looked at the British Uni Tennis twitter feed, they haven't even mentioned it, which I think it is a bit poor.
