Week 44 - (ITF W60) - Nantes, France Hard

Not surprisingly, Beth and Eden are well beaten by the much-higher ranked second seeds

QF:- Sarah Beth Grey (GBR) / Eden Silva (GBR) CR318 (165+153) LOST TO Eri Hozumi (JPN) / Ekaterina Yashina (RUS) CR219 (68+151) [2] 1-6 3-6

Tara and Emina were leading 3-0 when they retired

Wonder if there's some kind of bug going round. Emily mentioned on her Instagram she'd been ill.

Could well be. Sam retired yesterday, as did Simona Waltert, and there were a couple of others on Tuesday. Emily said one of her possible doubles partners was also ill.
Waiting to see if Sam comes out for her doubles later.

Even better (with apologies to the Noel pair) - it's the French girls who've been struck down and failed to appear, giving Sam and partner a walkover

(actually Mallorie played a huge long match today so is probably slightly injured, not sick, but the result is the same)

Super from Beth.

Yes, I do think there has been consistentency and general improvement through this year and great now to get such a ranking scalp although the odds looked if anything tighter than I'd maybe have expected. And it wasn't exactly close!

Still yes a very big rankings gap  between our top 10 and #11 and 12, Tara and Beth, but it has been closing.

Emily says it was absolutely freezing on court - can't have helped any of the players.

Sam and Jessika are through 6-3 7-5.

Missed 4 match points at 5-4 *40-0, but saved a couple of game points to break straight back and serve it out.

Great stuff.
