Other events, 2021 - week 43

Zimbabwe, J4:

R1 wins for Roy Keegan and Will Jansen, and in the dubs they're into the QFs.

And R1 wins for Lucy Webber and Brooke Black (a new name to me) - age 13 - big congrats - her first event. And, together, they won their R1 dubs match too.

Kenya, J4:

R1 loss for Finbar McGarvey. But Freddie Ridout had a BYE and then a win.

Lithuania, J5: Young Oliver Bonding (age 14) got a win in R1, in both singles and doubles.

Italy, J5: Anthony Wright lost in R1. And he and Kyran Magimay lost in the doubles. In the girls, Anjali Kotecha also lost, but got a doubles win

Benin, J4: Flora Johnson is carrying on her so far mega successful African tour, along with Jade Cole. Both have BYES in R1.

Spain, J5: We have three girls in the MD - Sarah Tatu (top seed), Jemma Cave and Ashira Murray

Zimbabwe, J4: R2 wins for Roy Keegan and Will Jansen. And in the dubs together too.

In the girls, Lucy Webber lost. But 13 year-old Brooke Black won.

The slight caveat, and slightly strange thing, is that Brooke is the daughter of Wayne Black, ex-ATP 69.
The Black family, with Cara and Byron, is the real flagship tennis family of Zimbabwe. No connections to the UK that I know. Very proudly Zimbabwean.
Her brother is also playing, and is listed as Zimbabwean. As is dad still etc.
Yet Brooke is listed as GB.
So, it raises a slight question of whether there's some mess-up in the listings....
But they're might also be some reason that Brooke is under the GB flag - she played doubles with Lucy Webber, not a Zimbabwean girl, so that might back it up a bit.
Either way, two wins in a J4 in her first event is very impressive (and still counting)
Mind you, there's some pretty 'scary' or 'impressive' (depending on your slant) articles about how dad trains the two kids non-stop, and has focused huge energy on them making it as pros....

Benin, J4: Flora Johnson and Jade Cole won their R2 matches, and doubles, very easily.

Spain, J5: Sarah Tatu won but Jemma Cave and Ashira Murray lost.

Lithuania, J5: Oliver Bonding retired from singles and withdrew from his doubles. Hope he's OK.

Kenya, J4: Freddie Ridout got a win in singles and doubles.

Italy, J5: Anjali lost her doubles match

Quick check online, link above: Wayne Black's wife, Irina, from Kazaksthan, former tennis player good enough to win (I think) junior Wimbledon with Cara Black, though I think didn't really play professionally, but may be wrong. Both children born in London. So we may need to keep an eye on her as potential gb player!
Edited to remove reference to link: it did appear as link.

Wayne had a good doubles career, won 2 slams with Kevin Ullyett, a US and Aussie title; he reached 69 in singles at one time. I saw him play live in a DC match at Crystal Palace when he and Byron beat Mark Neal Broad and Mark Petchey, I think, in 5 sets. Zimbabwe won that tie and Wayne also played singles, beating Jamie Delgado and Andrew Richardson in his matches to win 3 out of 3 - 2 names there that have gone onto be Grand SLam winning coaches

Glad to see that everyone's been sleuthing a bit like I did

I saw a Facebook page which referred to 'Surrey's Brooke Black' so it sounds like she definitely has ties here, which is great, and an interesting prospect.

Young Brooke lost in Zimbabwe today but it was three sets (the first two very close) against the 2nd seed. So it's a very honourable appearance in her first ITF event.

In the boys, Will Jansen won, into the semis, but Roy Keegan lost.

Together, however, they are into the finals of the doubles.

Benin, J4: Flora Johnson and Jade Cole both lost their singles today. But are through to the finals of the dubs.

Kenya, J4: Poor Freddie lost 7-6(6) in the third set to lose his QF. He's into the SF in doubles though.

Spain, J5: wins for Sarah Tatu in singles and dubs, while Jemma and Ashira lost their doubles
