Jo is doing a good job on commentary. Very insightful and thoughtful, and of course her in-depth knowledge of these players is unrivalled. Not sure it's a massive coincidence that she's suddenly started popping up doing some TV work at the end of a year which has been ruined by illness and injury but in which she's also got engaged and her personal life is starting to change.
Laura and both Naomi's also do a fabulous job. Replacing Sue Barker will be some contest!
The way I see it is that Emma still has to serve her apprenticeship - you can't skip the grind that gains the knowledge. You can shorten the process if you're a quick learner with a good team around you.
What Emma did at the US Open was amazing, and I'd don't imagine you'd swap that for the not inconsiderable downside of having to proceed in the spotlight for the foreseeable.
I just have a look through Ms. Raducanu's match history on the ITF website. It's probably been mentioned on here before, but she doesn't seem to have ever played a competitive senior match on clay.
I wonder how the rest of Emma's season is going to pan out ? She's played 11 matches in Grand Slam main draws winning 10 matches in straight sets and losing one match by a retirement. However her career in WTA main draws is limited to just 3 tournaments and 3 defeats in straight sets. One of the defeats against Shuai Zhang she avenged the next time they met at the US Open . One defeat was to Harriet who's only won 3 main tour matches all year and the other was to Sasnovich who provided Heather with her last win. Emma's career is certainly unique so far.

When we get round to Wimbledon perhaps the BBC will employ the above names in place of some people they have been using for years. There was an article written by Simon Briggs to that affect in July.
I thought she would get through to play Halep at least but perhaps some degree of hangover from New York was to be expected. Hopefully the indoor hardcourts in Moscow will suit her game better.

Jo must be working pretty hard on it too... no time left for social media!! As for her commentary, it's well prepared and thus far she's not resorted to the familiar clichés. Lets hope she can keep it up.

Knowing Jo's luck this year she'll get lock jaw.
Seriously she was pretty decent. First time she's done it?

I think she will need a decent draw. Once she gets a first win she should be able to settle the nerves ok. She needs the courts to be quicker than Indian Wells where I have to say I think, for a major tournament, the courts are disgracefully slow. they may as well dig them up and turn them into clay.

The Pliskova -Frech match was the first match Jo has ever commentated on with the experienced Sam Smith long sIde.
Im interested in why Andy Richardson hasnt said anything. Hes either a gent or was paid a tidy sum and gagged. Emmas comments in the papers today suggest her team made this call. I suspect her team ie dad and img paid Andy a little severance package and told not to talk to the press

I see Laylah Fernandez is doing well out in IW , in last 16 singles and QF of doubles, the latter with Gauff
Yes losing the US Open final doesn't seemed to have had a detrimental affect on Leylah. She's playing doubles with Coco Gauff because Caty McNally is out of action for the moment.
Sasnovich played better against Simona Halep than she did against Emma. Crazy first serve percentage, lots of brilliant shots.
If Sasnovich is playing well enough to beat Halep (who looked pretty good in her previous match) it puts a different perspective on Emma's performance (noting all the comments above about errors etc)
