Week 40 - WTA1000 Hard

I wonder what's happened to Harriet. She posted a pic at the venue yesterday, and there was also a pic with Kontaveit (although not sure if that's an old one), but she's not in the Q draw, and not ranked high enough to get in directly. Would be a shame if she is a late withdrawal.

Harriet withdrew from all ITF events for weeks 41 and 42 yesterday as well, so presumably injured?

How many times have we asked if she is injured or not this year? I think it's at least 3 times.

Of course she did have wrapping on her thigh last week.

Interesting opponent for Katie ( age 16 ). Seems to remember Brant won a few matches at the open ?

From the BNP Paribas official site (posted Thursday 30th September)

"On the womens side, 18-year-old American and four-time doubles champion Catherine McNally will head to the desert as a main draw wild card, as will Americans Claire Liu, Katie Volynets, Katrina Scott and 2020 Orange Bowl Junior champion Ashlyn Krueger. 18-year-old Elsa Jacquemot of France received the final womens main draw wild card.

2021 US Open Champion Emma Raducanu was previously awarded a main draw wild card.

Qualifying wild cards into the 2021 BNP Paribas Open on both the mens and womens sides will be announced in the coming days."

Looks like we will have to wait for the draws to come out.

Has Kim withdrawn and she's nabbed that one?

The WTA reported on Friday that Kim had a WC - but then the WTA aren't always up to date with their news (not as bad as the draws though!)

I thought I saw him with her at Wirral - so maybe just the familiarity factor? It's not like she seems to have needed that mega coach thing to win her first major, so I'm not particularly worried.

Not the first time they have made mistakes with wild cards. However they do have the option to give 8 wild cards and Harriet and also Zavatska appear to have been added to the list according to dartsrankings . As you say we will have to wait for the draws to come out.
