Doubles (Rankings as at 13/09/21)

L16:- Mana Kawamura (JPN) / Funa Kozaki (JPN) CR634 (322+312) v Sarah Beth Grey (GBR) / Despina Papamichail (GRE) CR517 (203+314)

L16:- Naiktha Bains (GBR) / Simona Waltert (SUI) CR449 (242+207) [4] v Mihaela Buzarnescu (ROU) / Angela Fita Boluda (ESP) CR 517(131+388)

 

Edited to correct Depina's ranking to clarify the seeding as per Indi's post below.

Not sure why Beth and Despina arent seeded. Seedings are based on the WTA rankings from the Monday before the tournament week, so should be the rankings as at 13/09, which are the ones I have used. Anyone able to correct me ?

204 was Papamichail's ITF 13/09 doubles ranking. Her WTA ranking was 314.

Also, Beth and Despina were third on the acceptance list, but were bumped down by on-site sign-ins.

R1: CARRERAS, Amanda (GBR) LL 410 v BARA, Irina Maria (ROU) 4 118 (CH=112 2021)
R1: JONES, Francesca (GBR) 8 160 =CH v BAINS, Naiktha (GBR) Q 262 (CH=199 2020)
They played three times before with Naiktha winning twice in three in 2019 and Fran winning in two earlier this year.

Yes, although Amanda beat her in their last two encounters....

Valencia W80:
@amanda_carreras
got a lucky loser spot and will take on 4th seed Irina Bara ROU WR 113 (CH 112 in Jun) in R1
H2H 2-0, both SFs in Palmanova in 2015 and good memories - Amanda won 1&4 one week, thrashed her 1&0 the next and went on to take both titles!

Nice one Beth. That was the same opponents that she beat in the final at Prerov last month - but was playing with Alves then who is much higher ranked.

Naiktha and Simona are a set up in their match.

Naiktha didn't really get a look-in against Fran. She won the first two games, but Fran ended up with the win 6-3 6-1
