Week 38 - ITF (W25) Johannesburg/Ellispark, South Africa Hard

Matilda's match has started. Needs to serve strong.

Deuce on her first service game already.

Two twelve point games to start the match, with three break points apiece. But Matilda loses out *0-2

Really hope Matilda has took inspiration from Emma. Definitely an improvement in her results as of late. Good luck and onwards as upwards MM.

I mean she's playing 15k level opponents in a 25k (good scheduling, these South African events always present opportunities for good points), but wins are wins.

She was a break down in the second but recovered it. Was two points away at 5-4*, now *5-5.

Good win for Matilda, and good points as Paul says. Should lift her into the low 600's when the points go on. Still have to qualify next week in Pretoria though (currently in the Q11 spot one the acceptance list)

I'd mentioned that somewhere too (that Emma's achievement, and her method of play to do it might have been a real influence) - I really think it's possible smile

Also possible that Matilda's performance at the US Open juniors might be behind it too. She absolutely had that match - it was on her racket - and she just backed off a little. Ended up losing it - must have stung like heck, especially given how well her opponent did.

Either way, the recent wins, and their scorelines, are very encouraging.

QF: MUTAVDZIC, Matilda (GBR) Q 829 (CH=820 2021) {17yo JCH=12} v ANDRIANJAFITRIMO, Tessah (FRA) 2 206 (CH=198 2021)

This is quite a step up for Matilda so it will be interesting to see how it goes.
