Great win for Ryan - he so often (it seems to me) comes out just the wrong side of a big win - a top 200 clutch victory is very nice

L16:  Ryan Peniston WR 323 beat Christopher Eubanks (USA) WR 199 (CH = 147 in April 2019) by 4-6 7-6(4) 6-4

In the second set Ryan was 5-2* up, was broken back for 5-4*, though did then have 2 SPs at 5-4* 40-15, and then in the TB saved a MP at *5-6.

In the third set he broke early for *2-1 and saw it home after that.

QF: Ryan Peniston WR 323 vs (8) Bjorn Fratangelo (USA) WR 189 (CH = 99 in June 2016)

Live rankings are showing Ryan at 309 which would represent a further CH. If he can win his QF he should be into the top 300 for the first time.

How could the tie break score have been 5-6 if he won it 7-4?

So, Ryan was supposed to play the winner of Tennys Sandgren and Chris Eubanks.

But Tennys got defaulted after only two games (couldn't happen to a nicer man.....)

It was off camera but seemingly (reports differ) the ball boy bounced a ball at him badly so it hit him (gently) in the groin. Tennys lashed a ball out in anger and hit a linesman (not too badly but....)

Anyway, he's gone, to the sorrow of nobody bar his mum, and Ryan's got Eubanks now.

Why is Tennys such a bad guy, I have never heard anything?  Please inform?

Ok, this is mainly political, so it's just my view, and not gospel.

Tennys is a major Trump fan. But, more, he is extreme far right in most of his views. He re-tweets a lot of white nationalist sites, and was very critical of Kaepernick.

And even that might be OK (each to their own, etc) but he is also a major conspiracist believer, and an active part of many utterly trashy and dangerous websites. From the Chicago Tribune:

"Sandgren also engaged with people spreading rumors about "Spirit Cooking," a misinformation campaign that sought to paint Hillary Clinton as a Satan-worshiping occultist, and Pizzagate, a similarly baseless conspiracy theory hoax that Clinton was connected to a pizzeria child sex ring, writing, "It's sickening and the collective evidence is too much to ignore."

He also got a lot of stick for some homophobic / transphobic Tweets: https://www.outsports.com/2018/1/28/16943402/tennys-sandgren-gay-tennis

Just to point out, as noted by seagull above, that the score was 4-6 7-6(6) 6-4

Well done, that man!  biggrin

Fantastic result for Ryan. Ive always hoped that he would do well and it looks as though he is making some steady progress now. Im even more now in his corner once I read about his health issues when he was younger - good luck to him.

Yeah Sandgren is a POS. I don't hear many on this site go after Isner who is very conservative, but Sandgren would be running around with Buster Mottram in terms of how extreme he is. Broady got into a spat with him last year over the election conspiracy

Yes, sorry I'm all for people expressing their points of view at times but the known range of Sandgren's will get push back, certainly in general from the "bit of a middle grounder" area.

An object lesson really, in resistance, counter-attack and re-direction.

Wow! I had no idea. Def off my Christmas card list. What a waste of 'having a platform'. I just read his tweet, how can you stumble into a gay club? Also, why did he stay to be so offended LOL

The Broady's should be running the country. Good good people

Ryan went down to Frantangelo 3 and 5 which is respectable and a good week for Mr P.

Was taking to a colleague in Chicago last night, its still 80 plus degrees out in the mid west and north of the country. I was happy with our 20 degrees C here in Yorkshire yesterday!
