Week 37 - Challenger 80 ($52,080) - Atlantic Tire Championships II, Cary, NC, USA (hard)

added comment - he is of course down to play with Harri H in the Nur Sultan 250 event next week, so can hop on the plane in good time now; they are also entered in Sofia 250 the following week, but around 6th alternates at the moment. It is then Indian Wells, so presumably they will have a couple of Challenger level events in mind for those two weeks before the 4 weeks of indoor events through the likes of Moscow, St Petersburg, and Stockholm at 250 level, which they may well target. Entries will again be tough for those as the season ends, so it may need to be more Challengers.

Metz and Sofia become very important to Lloyd's ranking I feel, and indeed, his future

So, Ryan was supposed to play the winner of Tennys Sandgren and Chris Eubanks.

But Tennys got defaulted after only two games (couldn't happen to a nicer man.....)

It was off camera but seemingly (reports differ) the ball boy bounced a ball at him badly so it hit him (gently) in the groin. Tennys lashed a ball out in anger and hit a linesman (not too badly but....)

Anyway, he's gone, to the sorrow of nobody bar his mum, and Ryan's got Eubanks now.

Why is Tennys such a bad guy, I have never heard anything?  Please inform?

Ok, this is mainly political, so it's just my view, and not gospel.

Tennys is a major Trump fan. But, more, he is extreme far right in most of his views. He re-tweets a lot of white nationalist sites, and was very critical of Kaepernick.

And even that might be OK (each to their own, etc) but he is also a major conspiracist believer, and an active part of many utterly trashy and dangerous websites. From the Chicago Tribune:

"Sandgren also engaged with people spreading rumors about "Spirit Cooking," a misinformation campaign that sought to paint Hillary Clinton as a Satan-worshiping occultist, and Pizzagate, a similarly baseless conspiracy theory hoax that Clinton was connected to a pizzeria child sex ring, writing, "It's sickening and the collective evidence is too much to ignore."

I'm confused. Are the Tribune saying that she isn't a Satan-worshiping occultist?

I thought that Bill worshipped something else.

US politics is so confusing. I don't know what I would have done faced with a choice between Trump and Biden (or Trump and Clinton for that matter).

Ok thanks for the info guys, I had a gut feeling it would have something to do with Sandgren having different political views.

As a bit of a middle grounder it appears that the left have been particularly aggressive with those anywhere right of centre in the last few years and liking Trump who clearly did a lot of good for the USA in his first two years is now a hanging offence.

As for conspiracy theorists, (never heard of spirit cooking by the way) I never had time for any of them but regarding the events of the last 18 months they have called it right every three - six months in advance every time. There is a saying now "what is the difference between a conspiracy and the news - six months". I now question everything the MSM present, the world is not the place I thought it was, that is for sure, lies and fake news everywhere, there are dark forces as play.

As for this competition is was disappointing to see LLoyd get bombed out. Nick is an experienced player, maybe they just didn't click, it happens sometimes.

Yes been pretty messy re constantly changing partners due to entry conditions and some issues for I think both Lloyd and Harri at times.

If back together for a while and both fit and well I think that there is still reason to be quite optimistic for the future. Be nice to get some wins but I wouldn't be stressing huge importance for the future on remaining tournaments this year other than they may just help to get / keep beyond certain CR ranking thresholds - eg. for the Aussie Open.

Overall it's been a very good year for Lloyd but performance and ranking rises over time are so often far from linear ( which they pretty much were for a little while ), especially when you throw in the doubles dynamics.

According to the BBC, it was the ball that had hit him in the nuts that that he hit and it bounced off a fence and hit a line judge in the backside.

Ryan dropped the first set by 4-6, but he's fighting back:  3-0* in the second & I'm off to bed.  that I log on to good news later this morning.

L16:  Ryan Peniston WR 323 beat Christopher Eubanks (USA) WR 199 (CH = 147 in April 2019) by 4-6 7-6(6)* 6-4

In the second set Ryan was 5-2* up, was broken back for 5-4*, though did then have 2 SPs at 5-4* 40-15, and then in the TB saved a MP at *5-6.

In the third set he broke early for *2-1 and saw it home after that.

QF: Ryan Peniston WR 323 vs (8) Bjorn Fratangelo (USA) WR 189 (CH = 99 in June 2016)

Live rankings are showing Ryan at 309 which would represent a further CH. If he can win his QF he should be into the top 300 for the first time.

* edited from a wrong 7-6(4) which as pointed out later in the thread didn't make sense.
