They played in a junior tournament in 2019 with Matilda winning 1 & 1.

With that draw, you could get your wish Paulisi.  smile  Matilda's got to be a strong favourite to get the win.

You need to go deep in 25k to pick up decent points.

However the SA tournaments have been notoriously weak in the past

Matilda won't have any easy ride if she gets through this match. Chanel Simmonds (RSA) WR433 awaits the winner, and possibly Elizabeth Mandlik WR556 after that (leading Muramatsu #3 by 6-4 3-1 at the moment)

But she's on her way to 9 points (7+2) for this match. 2-0* in the second

Pretty sure Matilda served for it once, at 5-2 in the second.

Now *5-4

ADD: But holds and wins out to love smile

All credit to Matilda - she's playing the far more offensive game, looking for the points, while Chanel isn't really doing very much.....

3-3

Up until 6-6, Matilda really deserved to win that set.

Far better construction of points, on the front foot, a bit unlucky on two break points......

But her backhand down the line was pretty dire - and then she played a pretty hideous tie-break (and blaming the wind doesn't cut it).

Shame........ lost the tie-break 7-6(4)

Ms. Mutavdzic went 3-0 down in the second, but managed to break back. 3-2*

Seven games in a row, and serving for it.

That's a very good win for Matilda. And she gets a fellow qualifier in the QF, Valeria Bhunu WR860, who beat Elizabeth Mandlik 4 & 1

 Very impressed by that.

As said, she was the better player in the first set and should have won it.

And started of badly in the second.

Took a lot of mettle to come back there, and really buckle down and see it out
