Matilda could do with pushing on - would be good if she can qualify and pick up some points

Matilda was still in New York late last week, surprised she has made the journey so quickly, good commitment from her

The Emma effect?

I'm not an expert at all, but my reading of Matilda's game from watching her over the grass season and in USO juniors is that she needs to get to a place where her weight of shot is strong enough that it can give her the upper hand in rallies more easily and quickly, so she's not embroiled in physically demanding rallies against solid opponents who don't break down easily

She's a clever operator on court but lacks power she needs to end points when she gets the upper hand

In any case, good wins here and well done!

That's what I was thinking biggrin

Agree with Gratchka - her weight of shot is just too light at the moment and she ends up at the mercy of the bigger hitters.

Romeo is a sort of 'journey-man' player but she's been around a while, she's no slamdunk.

And, as Jon says, very quick turnaround from Matilda, and putting the disappointment behind her (that US Open juniors match was completely hers - she'll be asking herself a thousand times how she managed to lose it)

i also thought when I watched her that she doesn't have a plan B. I'd like to see a bit more variety in her game than just trying to outhit her opponent, which as you say doesn't always work.

With that draw, you could get your wish Paulisi.  smile  Matilda's got to be a strong favourite to get the win.
