I'll jump in there with Dan.

Brilliant for Emma and a real chance of a Slam QF but it will probably ( well hopefully ) not particularly define her career but win or loss 'just' be an early part of that journey, even though this has all come unexpectedly early.

Super from Millen to suddenly go out and reach a 25K final  and well done Louis. All rhe best, lads.

But it's Dan for me. At this this stage in his career, after all the ups and downs, this is a match on Ashe against the WR 2 and particularly good hard court player. Massive to win it in itself and if he did then beyond would lie a very open and enticing half of the draw and he would already be in the QF.

 Nah.

Firstly, Dan won't win. And even if he does, it'd be a great win but he'll still be seeded at the Aussie Open. He'll go up 10 spots or whatever but he won't go on and win the US Open. It won't fundamentally change anything.

But if Millen wins a 25 title, that may put him in a different ranking and different mind-frame to really change his outlook on pro tennis.

(Mind you, he won't win either....... So that's enough of Mystic Meg smile

I agree with CD that most likely neither will win but disagree on the other issue. Millen has had a huge breakthrough this week which will no doubt improve his confidence and his ranking. He should find it easier to get into 25Ks and with a few more good runs start looking to move up to the next level. Not sure that winning the final will change that much. However Dan has gone on record saying he's been disappointed that he hasn't done himself justice at slams so if he could beat Medvedev and make the quarters it would be massive in terms of his career achievements. Go Dan!!!

Just looking back to our poll, sadly the two players who we collectively felt were facing the biggest career matches did indeed lose. Whereas Emma and Louis won.

I do though agree wiih ST that I'm not sure that the final result as such was so huge for Millen but that it was more about what he may have proved to himself over the week as a whole.

For Dan to have won that match against Medvedev and be playing a US Open QF against van de Zandschulp would have been huge, then only to possibly be surpassed for him by that QF.
