Not sure if been said already... but loses that 1st set tie break to Daichenko ( spelling ) and probably match, and none of this happens.
If anybody s not seen it the set was epic ( over an hour ) and theres a guy the other side of Wimbledon village who s now permanently
deaf thanks to the Russians stoopid Shrieking !
Emma would still have made the breakthrough of course, but probably not untill next year.

Who knows but Emma did win the second set vs Diatchenko 6-0 She is a rather quick learner. Or for some reason did Diatchenko throw that second set? - I can't recall what anyone said about it.
feeling quite down today, I have got used to something miraculous happening every other day for the last 2 weeks. 2 days in a row without something completely amazing happening and I feel quite empty ???
I remember that feeling from the London Olympics, flat and aimless
If Ash has beaten Shelby, as she really SHOULD have done, 5-2 up in the third, maybe Emma would have come up short against Ash.
There's lots of twists and turns along the way (cliché for the day award)
We'll never know - and it doesn't matter.
Kind of what we were discussing just prior about Harriet always entering the bigger tournaments and giving herself that opportunity of getting a good draw and a bit of luck rather than sticking with the lower levels. If you aren't in it, you aren't winning it. Everything that has happened to Emma is a result of her performances pre Wimbledon, earning that upgrade to MD, making it count, pushing on and learning.
Loses to Diatchenko and she would have been way short of points to enter u s open Q. Remember Durie saying the Russian looks shell
shocked after bossing most of the 1st set and then losing it. Only Emma s battling qualities got her through in the end.
I watched that set several times on Iplayer after W, it was that good..... or I m that sad !. Anyway all s well that ends well
Thanks Emma, great feel good factor for the country... post pandemic.
Absolutely. And my story about the French guy and the regrets you'll have for life if you don't roll the dice sometimes.
One coach I know tries to teach players how to distinguish between events in terms of play and intensity.
On the basis, that you have to be able to up it at key events.
But you can't do that always.
Emma's showing in the UK pro event on May and wimbly a month or so later shows that :)
Regarding Emma related traffic going forward, I have posted in the Emma thread in the Individual Players section regarding a suggestion of having a whole seperate section for Emma where we could then aim Emma related posts at seperate thread topics.
So if interested and/or have any thoughts on this head to the Emma thread and add any responses there.
A different angle of the match. 17 mins of highlights filmed, I imagine by a spectator behind one end of the court, almost at ground level. You can't see the score but most of the points look familiar. Seems to be all 2nd set.
