Paralympic Wheelchair Tennis 2021 - Tokyo

I have a wheelchair tour thread, but thought a specific thread for the wheelchair tennis in Tokyo would be suitable.

https://www.itftennis.com/en/news-and-media/articles/tokyo-2020-paralympic-tennis-event-draws/

We have the following players in singles and doubles:

Mens - Alfie Hewett (2) and Gordon Reid (5) ; Hewett/Reid (1)

Womens - Jordanne Whiley (4) and Lucy Shuker ; Whiley/Shuker (2)

Quads - Andy Lapthorne (3) and Antony Cotterill ; Lapthorne/Cotterill

Seedings point to expectation of 1 gold, 2 silvers and a bronze - let's see if we can beat that!

There's also Dermot Bailey in the men's.

OOP for Friday out although with not much Brit interest - olympics.com/tokyo-2020/paralympic-games/en/results/wheelchair-tennis/paralympic-schedule-and-results-date=2021-08-27.htm

Looks like play today delayed by , presumably, rain?

Dermot Bailey sadly lost in straight sets, leaving 2 singles players in each of the 3 classes.

In Quads doubles, Andy and Antony are on court now, just started - match is a quarterfinal so big one at the off!

And Andy Lapthorne and Antony Cotterill won easily. They are into the last 4 of the Quads Doubles, playing the Dutch 2nd seeds.

Tomorrows schedule has all 6 of our remaining singles players (2 in each discipline) on the schedule and I think the doubles will follow later in the day...

Alfie and Gordon both won their openers as did Lucy . Rest still to play, jordanne leading comfortably though.

So it looks like we got 5 singles players through today, and all 3 doubles pairs. Antony Cotterill lost in the quads singles.

Alfie and Gordon ahead 6-0 4-0 so looks pretty much done ! Will move into last 8.

Big match coming up is Andy Lapthorne and Antony Cotterill in their quads doubles semi, a win and they get a silver medal guaranteed. Their Dutch opponents are hot favourites though and second seeds.

Disappointing today as Andy Lapthorne
Lost to unseeded Vink in the last 8, going out before his expected semifinal place. All our quads hopes are finished now in singles, Andy and Antony have a bronze doubles to come.

In mens wheelchair, Alfie and Gordon still battling on both fronts as are Jordanne and Lucy in womens .
