I wonder if the windy city is living up to its name - they were both under 40% on first serve in the second set

Yeah Harriet was a break down 3 times, getting the crucial hold at *4-4 saving a break point.

Whenever I see van uytvank play I just feel she is very beatable, am I being unkind but she really doesn't impress me that much?

I feel the same, saw the draw and thought even though Emma drew the top seed there were definitely worse draws to be had.  It's a good test for her and a winnable one.

Wins 6-4 in the third. Another good result

She was 3-0* but got pegged back. Stayed sensibly aggressive and took advantage of some sloppy stuff from Kucova to break for another super win 3-6 6-4 6-4.

Not worth anything really in points terms but another great win over someone who will be at the top end of the qualifying field next week. All good for momentum and confidence.

Well done, Harriet! Hopefully, she will really make the most of squeezing into the draw at the last moment.

Yes, at least she's already got a good win and getting matches under her belt if sod all ranking points for winning the qualifying round - 6 points which is a non counter for Harriet. Just have to get a MD win or two if she also wants rankings progress!

Unfortunately she's for Tauson. Good test though.

Sorry, misread the app on my phone - screen didn't show the full width.

Harriets moved up to 152 in the live ranking so a great trip to Chicago already!

That was last weeks Montreal outing but a couple of matches here pre US Open qualifying is a definite bonus if only as a warm up.  She is definitely getting far more prep in than most of the women of a similar ranking.
