Week 33 - WTA125 Chicago, USA Hard

Emma has now W5 L1 in TBs this summer. So good matchplay.

The 5 she has won have all been first set TBs and after the previous 4 she has won all the subsequent 2nd sets by 6-2, 6-0, 6-2 and 6-3.

Just saying. Don't blame me if I've now jinxed it!

Do we think that Emma can win this tournament?

I think that there is no reason why she couldn't win this tournament as she can defeat the remaining people in this tournament if she is playing at her best.

Well Emma certainly fought hard in that match. Those screams of "come on" after Niemeier had made an unforced error, were getting a bit annoying. Jule dominated the vast majority of the points, playing some sensational tennis but enough errors to keep Emma in the contest.

There were a few good shots from Emma, the forehand pass in the tiebreak and some shockers too, especially the careless forehand long on bp 4-5* and that backhand long at 2-2 during the tiebreak.

Not totally convinced that she has the stamina yet to go through the draw and win a tournament at this level but a great week whatever and Im sure itll only be a matter of time.

I agree, and in a way I hope that she doesn't as USO qualies are around the corner. But then having that confidence boost might be good too..

I'm on the fence as to whether it would be better for Emma to let this match go with an eye on next weeks qualies or consider this tournament the priority (bird in the hand) with an eye on next year.
