2-5* became *4-5 and a glimmer of hope, but she lost the next point. Saved the set point on her serve but Muchova launches an ace out wide.

She's played a great level though. I suspect Muchova will take this now, but encouraging tennis, even if the ranking takes a mammoth hit.

Jo never threatened to break in the third and loses it 6-2.

A superb first set but once Muchova settled and started to serve a bit better Jo didn't have the little extra she needed to get in front and over the line. A shame but it's been a positive couple of weeks. Hope she can see that, she looked quite deflated.

I hope she gets a reasonable draw in New York, she's capable of a couple of wins and it would be a nice boost after a rough period. Hopefully she gets her vaccine too...

In the actual event Rebecca Peterson was a lucky loser as Pavlyuchenkova had problems entering the USA. She was well beaten by Bernarda Pera.

it is just such a joy to see Heather play to the best of her ability. That scorline against Barty looks so good win or lose.

Her right shoulder was taped up but didn't appear to be impacting her delivery. She played a great match, and you could see on her face she was enjoying it. Really lovely to see and I hope beyond hope this is the year that New York curse is lifted!!

Heather played Barty at her own game and fared well - good effort.

Wimbledon form held up well with only Sabalenka not making the semifinal from the Wimbledon semi finalists. There were several retirements or in Halep's case a walkover for their opponents. Badosa was the latest retirement.
