Emma hitting the ball well..... but I can't tell if her opponent seems to be tanking? Some of the misses / lack of effort to get to a ball seem questionable.

Emma was hitting all her targets in that set after missing them all in the first set.

The long break seems to have broken Emma's concentration, loses serve to love.

Feels like a huge hold there. Recovered from 15-40, and then held on about her 7th game point to lead 4-1*.

Gorgodze blatantly tanked that second set from about 3-0 down, and looked like it was going to pay off after immediately breaking the first game back following both leaving the court, but 4 games in a row now for Emma.

Yep, didn't see her winning 12 of the last 13 games after dropping that first set, especially the way it unfolded. Great tournament now, regardless of what happens next. 4 solid wins, 31 points, and more good news...

She has a WC into the Chicago W125k event next week. The more she wins this week, the less important it is to play next week, but another opportunity to test herself against fringe 100 players.

If Emma wins her QF I see that her contemporary (2) Clara Tauson is a potential SF opponent although Clara is so far only through to R2 and may have to play 2 singles matches tomorrow. Also Clara+ is still in the doubles with a QF match against Sam+.

Agreed great result and tournament for her. Pleased to see her competing at this level which feels the right sort of progression for her. Personally do think she needs to play next week. This is good practice for being on the tour full time with back to back tournaments.

Personally I don't see at all that Emma "needs" to play again next week at this early stage in her full time career and with US Open qualifying the week after.

She has come through qualifying here and the QF will be her 5th match in all, even if so far she has generally made fairly short work of them ( though in some tough conditions ), with hopefully more to come and also hopefully 3 matches in US Open qualifying.

If she wants to, and I assume by the WC her and her team have initially felt she'd be up for it, fair enough. But there really is no need to particularly push things. Indeed at times probably more need not to. And plenty experienced players choose to step away after a big week.
