Solid win from Emma, some nice backhand winners. Forehand is a bit messy. But otherwise a good win! So glad to see her build up these wins after Wimbledon, this is exactly the kind of tournament she needed.
I completely agree. Was very fearful after her team picked her last tournament. A terrible decision

I think there has been rather an overreaction to this. I assume playing Landisville was always the plan post-Wimbledon, San Jose was effectively a free hit and even a single victory there would have made it more than worthwhile.

Quite the overeaction. Also, she is unlikely to be able to turn down a WC at a tournament with links to her management company.

Yes, I agree.
Maybe hindsight helps but I did wonder quite what all the fuss was about. It was only a tournament. I mean, if you're happy she gets a wildcard to Wimbly, then getting a wildcard to a non-Grand Slam (however swanky) is hardly a problem. And there are obviously going to be a bigger range coming up - you can't get endless elite event wildcards.
The issue wasn't the WC to the tournament, the issue was making a person whose last match ended retirement with a panic attack, the guest of honour and face of the tournament. Not really sure how that appears difficult to understand as those of us that felt that way were very explicit about why.

Agreed. That was my beef with it too. I guess it's given her material for a sports psychologist if she has one, and I suspect that even if she wins this she'll still have to go through USO qualies, so can have a more normal progression out of the limelight.
Yes, how a young person can cope with instant fame like Emma had that week at Wimbledon, I will never know !. Which presumably led to the problems on the Monday, one would think. Who would have thought when she sat quietly on court that day before her first match that within a few nano seconds she d be receiving good luck messages from Wills, Kate, Pm, and even the boy Gallagher, ha. Such is Wimbledon. Anyway recovered well yesterday after a few dodgy umpire calls. All good this weeks so far. Hope its not too hot for todays play though. Enjoy.

Coco Vanderweghe retired overnight, so Emma will play fellow qualifier Ekaterine Gorgodze of Georgia WR165 later today (NB 12:30 local - scheduled for Court 7)

Thanks Emmsie. No, first time here. I remember somebody asking if that was you posting mid games during the Cirstea match, ha. Anyway glad you pulled through in that tight 2nd set ! Watched all of Emma s matches since Wimbledon including the San Jose 3 am one. These streaming jobbies are really good for sports.
