Looks promising, and sounds right for a morning start.
Sofascore shows a match at the same time - but it isn't anything from the tournament (Zarazua who lost first round against Lepchenko, who didn't play at all)
Feels like a huge hold there. Recovered from 15-40, and then held on about her 7th game point to lead 4-1*.
Gorgodze blatantly tanked that second set from about 3-0 down, and looked like it was going to pay off after immediately breaking the first game back following both leaving the court, but 4 games in a row now for Emma.
Interesting stuff going around about the Gorgodze Vandeweghe match - which had completely passed me by until today.
I see all the headlines about V being petulant, and bizarre, and refusing to warm up, for the re-start.
And the video clips are awful. Not moving. Hitting it with her wrong hand. Just patting it up in the air.
And you think - what the hell is she playing at?
And then you read V's version which is she didn't want to warm up again because of the heat and sinus problems. And she suggested G warm up with her coach which - seemingly - is allowed. And G refused, in order to force her to warm up, and struggle.....
I would think there's an outside chance of Sam getting a walkover, or playing Plipuech/Rompies if they get a walkover. Beatriz is unlikely to play four matches in a day, assuming she wins her QF against Kerkhove
I saw some of the clips of Vandeweghe, and got the mpression that she really wasn't interested in playing - let alone the warm up. Couldn't recognise the player that was doing so well four years ago.

Yes. Exactly.
But when I read the background, and her reasons, and the fact that G had refused to warm up with her coach (out of spite? forcing the issue?), it all became a lot murkier....

Yes this was the player who reached the semi finals of Australia and US Open in 2017 and also the quarter finals of Wimbledon. She was a top tenner who could beat Grand Slam champions. The rise and fall of Coco.

Her reasoning seems sound, but I still think she should have retired at the end of the second set, rather than continuing the match.
Thunderstorms were predicted so not unreasonable to play on knowing in all likelihood they'd be back off court shortly and she'd get a night to see if she could recover
Yes.
And I'm not querying whether she should have played or not. But whether she should be forced to warm up if she doesn't want to and the other player can do it with her coach instead
