Collard rangy, solid at the net, calm. Gumulya sort of mucked up the two deuce points, so her and Em are *2-5 down. It's not bad, but it's not good enough.
Sigh. What an opportunity and they just didn't grab it - can't really recover from losing the first 5 deuce points, and frustrating it was mainly poor play that stopped a couple going their way (Gumulya netted on most of them).
Impressed by Collard though, will keep an eye on her. All 4 doubles today won by the bookies underdogs.
Won't stay up for Harriet but fingers crossed for a good match.

Yes, playing better at the end, but never going to come back from 0-4.
Em does seem like to play with different partners, and it can't be easy to play at this level with a new partner. Well, not quite a new partner - they did play together a couple of times in 2009 !
For the record
L32:- Beatrice Gumulya (INA) / Emily Webley-Smith (GBR) CR397 (200+197) LOST TO Melodie Collard (CAN) (18yo JR52) / Carol Zhao (CAN) UNR (501+UNR) [WC] 2-6 3-6
7-5 7-6(4). What a week she is having. 90 points must be up there with the biggest points haul of her career - I can only think of Wimbledon off the top of my head, and maybe a Q and R1 win at the AO a couple of years ago, but it's right up there.
Harriet was struggling physically in the second set, had a MTO midway through for a foot / back issue, and was visibly hampered, but dug in so well. She was 6-1 up in the TB, and it was clawed back a bit, but I was so pleased when she finally converted, not least as it's 2.30am, but I'm not sure if she would have came out for the decider had it went that way.
Should be a day off now, and another Canadian challenge in Andreescu, the technical defending champion (Toronto). Hopefully she will have recovered physically, but a marvellous week regardless.
