Em not happy with Hawkeye - several foot faults now. I suspect it is calling them although her feet are off the ground.
Lost her serve yet again so 5-6*
The two doubles blew it at *5-3 (having done very well to restore the break). She had two individual set points at 5-4* but Burel served well on both.
Even if Burel isn't 100% on serve she's capable of blowing Em off court with her pace from the back in these rallies, so I'm not sure why she's sulking around the place and ballooning basic balls about. Her attitude at the start of the match absolutely stunk for a player new into the top 100.
Anyway, Burel does pull herself together and takes the set 7-6(2). Em couldn't find a first serve after those opening three games and was constantly being foot faulted on the auto line system. She ended the set on 41% first serves in, if that was in the high 50s she'd have taken it.
Ends on back to back doubles and loses 7-6(3) 6-4.
What an odd match. Em just needed to have served a tiny bit better and the first set would have been gone and then, who knows (like Addict I thought Burel was going to quit after the first couple of games). She was getting footfaulted by the system a couple of times a game, which probably didn't help.
Burel was hitting fine off the ground (mistakes aside) but struggled with her serve and I wondered if she was feeling a bit under the weather. She'll be relieved to be through, it shouldn't have been that tough.
Anyway, she's here for doubles, let's not dwell. First ever WTA 1000 and let's hope she serves better.
EDIT - hadn't realised until Steven's tweet this would have set up an all GB FQR which would have been fun, but if Burel doesn't sort herself out Heather really *should* win.
