I don't think Em is the on-site alternate - I think the OSA and FM mean that they are after her. There are some lower ranked players in the draw - Melichar, Ninomiya, Kichenok and Schuurs are all doubles players.
So it's a bits confusing but basically Em was the last player in the draw who was taken from the entry list. I think you need to be top 500 to enter an event of this level.
Then there was 1 on-site alternate who was a Canadian player who was ranked too low to go on the entry list but the highest ranked player who turned up to sign-in, and then 4 'Full Members' which is a reference to WTA membership status and is the 4 doubles specialists.
Surprised Em is here given Landisville is one of her favourite tournaments, but she'll get $3000 for a run out this afternoon and can always head there for doubles (assuming she doesn't sneak in the draw here).
The doubles draw is 28 this week, with 5 on-site entries. The last of the 20 advance entries was 201 according to tennisteen, so we'll have to wait and see.
Em HAS made the cut for doubles, partnering Beatrice Gumula.
Goodness. They were 6 out on the original entries so must have been a number of withdrawals. This is a massive step up but I guess it's worth grabbing the opportunity and you never know. Shame she won't get to Landisville though, she's always said how much she loves that event.

She said they only found out on Thursday, so the withdrawals were pretty late. Jet lag going to be a factor for a day or two for our girls !
