At least she has the chance of qualifying wins here ( if just 4 for for a QR1 win and 6 for qualifying ) after being promoted out of a very weak qualifying field in the the recent WTA 250 Palermo tournament.
Rather welcome, as she had lost all her previous 7 WTA/ITF singles matches this year ( some very tough, some not so tough ). Indeed she was just 1 win ( R1 in a Portugal 25K last September ) and 12 losses since she won a South Africa 25K title in March last year just prior to lockdown.
Eden actually got in as an alt in place of (q2) Haddad Maia, which left Sam as the sole seed in that qualifying bracket with Sam vs Duval being a FQR match.

I wondered what had happened because when I first did the draw I didn't see Eden. When I looked later she was there and I thought I must have missed her.

No Eden is a WC on the draw sheet, taking the WC that was originally awarded to Sam's opponent.

Hmm, a bit strange but I do now see that she is indeed shown on the revised drawsheet as a WC into what was the q2 spot ( Haddad Maia has been promoted to the MD ). So seems she was an alternative WC
