July 2021 Player of the Month Poll

I don't give a monkey's about expectations or titles or whatever (Although I agree it's the most logical approach)

I decided first off with this competition just to go with the player who's given me most joy this month. Which is usually tied to who I've been able to watch on TV or livestream (although not always), or - occasionally - someone I've got a special penchant for.

Ahh but isn't joy wrapped up with expectations, watching someone you don't expect to win is a lot easier and more fun that when you watch someone you expect to win and are invested in.

Yes, definitely some cross-over.

But not always - I mean, sometimes joy can become simply because of the person they beat.

Or because it was such a terribly close match, killing my nerves, and they scraped it.

(Or because I couldn't watch any other tennis that week and so it was a joy to watch that person's win, no matter what)

But, yes, the underdog outperforming is definitely one good example
