Olympic Qualification

Starting a thread to try and make sense of both singles and doubles qualification for the Olympics.

Most intriguingly (for me, at least) will be the doubles and mixed doubles pairings.

I'll start by wondering whether the success and Dan and Neal, and the injury to Ken, will mean they will qualify by ranking and team up. Could be our best shot of a medal right now!

Any other inside knowledge, thoughts, opinions, or speculation?

Am I right in thinking that Andy qualifies as current champion? Would Davis Cup participation affect this?

Do people think the Olympics will happen?!

So looking at the Doubles situation. If Joe manages to get into the top 10. He can the pick any Brit ranked in the top 300 to partner him. I wonder who he would pick. Neal could still make the top 10 but would probably need a Master tournament win.
I wonder if Neal and Dan fancy a shot at the Olympics.

I don't believe so, but they do have at least one wildcard that is for a previous gold medalist or slam champ. I imagine Andy will get this. Hopefully Andy and Venus.

Jo, Dan are both in by right. Cam should make it - he's in based on current rankings and the removal of the players who are from countries with more than 4 players in the top 56. Hev is on the cusp but I imagine she'll make it with those removed too - plus injuries or players that don't want to play. Even Kyle could sneak in providing he's fit.

At the moment I think yes, but far from guaranteed.

I thought Dan had said last year he was going to skip the Olympics. Perhaps, if it does take place this year, he may change his mind.

Shapo, Garin, Gasquet and Mannarino are stated they wont play Olympics today. I suspect a lot more will drop out as the next few weeks progress

Wouldnt surprise me there are not a few more. Especially if the COVID related rules are a bit strict.

Cam has entered Los Cabos which is a tournament right before the Olympics

Delpo is also (and not all that surprisingly) out (ongoing knee rehab)

In addition to Jon's post, Bautista Agut, Ruud and Monfils will also not play.

Will be interesting to see what country's such as ourselves in the UK, France, Spain etc put forward. If Cam doesn't play and Dan still skips it, Kyle is unlikely to play so we're left with an ageing Andy and doubles players for the men. I wonder if Jo will play (again, ongoing injury management).

Anyone know when the entry list for the Olympics will be known?

When will we know the final entry list?

Taking into account all of the above, its clear to see there will be plenty of back and forth on this for the next few weeks. The deadline by which all entries need to be submitted to Tokyo 2020 is 5 July, but, all being well, the final entry list should be announced by the end of June.
